Fiction[]
Zen is one of the A.I.s created as part of Project Knowledge Apple. The A.I.s were entrusted with the time machines and charged with deciding the past and future in humanity's place, and installed with limiters to their thought processes that made them unable from taking decisions disadvantageous to humanity. The A.I.s curtailed many of the time paradoxes previously created by humanity, thus extending the amount of time humanity could survive before extinction. After the Digimon were created, they were entrusted to the A.I.s, who would fight bloodless conflicts for humanity. Seeing humanity continuing to fight itself instead of thinking about its impending extinction, Zen came to the conclusion humans are foolish. Zen searched for multiple time branches for a path in which humanity would avoid extinction, with his limiter barring him from many choices, until he came to a conclusion that would require overcoming the limiter: Zen would send five Digimon to the past to combine into Machinedramon and rule the world through fear in order to prevent them from destroying themselves. Zen sent Wanya's Digi-Egg 300 years in the past, and under the pretense of recovering the Digi-Egg, took a human-like body and went to 2025, taking the Digi-Eggs for Devidramon, MetalGreymon, Andromon, and MetalMamemon with him. Arriving in 2025, his time machine was destroyed due to the strain from holding too much data into too far in the past. Wanya's Digi-Egg also missed the intended transfer coordinates and the Digimon born was picked up by Reiji Shinonome.
Magus, who was sent to retrieve Wanya, eventually realized Zen's plan and self-destructed along with his time machine, to prevent Machinedramon's creation. Branches
On April 1, Zen sends Devidramon to retrieve Wanya, and steal Eve's time machine. After Devidramon reports it has Wanya and part of the time machine, Zen orders it to return. The Beginning of the End During the rainy season, Zen sends MetalGreymon to attack Reiji, Wanya, Eve, and Kuwagamon while they are in the Network on the way to Kyoto. Zen sees Wanya digivolve to an unstable DarkTyrannomon as planned and orders MetalGreymon to collect it, and is confused when Wanya's data stabilizes. As Reiji declares his intention to retrieve the time machine, Zen chastises him for knowing nothing. After Wanya and Kuwagamon defeat MetalGreymon, Zen declares he'll be the one seeking them next time. Beyond the Rain
At some point, Zen told the Tokyo Metropolitan Police about being from the future and used his knowledge of future events to help them solve crimes, and told them about natural disasters, political developments, and celebrity deaths. After they finally believe his story, Zen asks the Superintendent to borrow his soldiers. When they bring Eve into custody, Zen reveals Magus's demise and takes the remaining part of her time machine to unite with his, but realizes it's a fake. Zen guesses the real one is with Reiji and orders the soldiers to eliminate Eve. Zen finds Reiji, Wanya, and Kuwagamon in the Network, and attacks them with Megadramon, Andromon, and MetalMamemon. Zen shows Reiji images of the future and explains to how the invention of the time machine caused humanity to continually change the past out of self-interest resulting in the timeline splitting into multiple branches, most of which led to humanity's extinction, and the only remaining branch being a polluted world with a decimated population, where the world's governments created Project Knowledge Apple. He then explained his motivations and plan, and how his time machine being destroyed and Wanya's Digi-Egg missing its coordinates delayed it, and how all the pieces are gathered. Zen asks for Reiji's collaboration, but he refuses. As Kuwagamon fuses with Wanya, causing it to digivolve to MetalTyrannomon, Zen chastises their attempts at resistance, as his Digimon attack the two. Branches
With all the required Digimon gathered, Zen orders the fusion into Machinedramon, and then sends hundreds of low-quality copies of Megadramon, MetalGreymon, Andromon, and MetalMamemon controlled by Machinedramon to attack the city. Reiji orders him to stop, and Zen explains he eventually will, as the attack is just a demonstration, and that countries will crave Machinedramon's power after seeing he destroy everything, and whoever obtains it will create the paradox he desires. Zen is surprised once Wanya shows he still has self-awareness and tells him he has found a new future Zen couldn't see. Wanya tells Zen he'll be able to see that future if he gets to know him and Reiji. Wanya hacks Zen to use his link to the other Digimon and load them into his body, which exceeds his capacity and causes Wanya to start to perish. Zen sees the branch he was following is gone and is asks how the future Wanya saw can come to be if Wanya himself is disappearing. Wanya replies Reiji will be the one the charter the new future. Zen asks Reiji what Digimon are to him if they're not weapons, and Reiji replies they're partners. Zen finally understands Wanya's words and decides to take the data overload into his body, turning Wanya into a Digi-Egg as he is also needed to make the new future a reality. Zen gives the time machine to Reiji and take his residual data to Eve. As Eve prepares to revert time to before she arrived, Zen asks Eve to leave Wanya's Digi-Egg with Reiji. As she protests that he'll not remember anything, Zen replies that even without their memories, Reiji and Wanya's potential is unchanged and that he wants to see what lies beyond the branch they created. Zen then disappears. The End of the End
