It's been a full year since the Fusion Fighters United Army vanquished MegaDarknessBagramon, but Digimon have started going wild in the Real World again. The Digimon Hunt has begun!

Synopsis[]

A year after Lord Bagra's invasion of the human world, Mikey and Ewan are playing against another basketball team with their most recent member, Tagiru. Mikey passes the ball to Tagiru and manages to reach the post, but ends up slamming face-first; nonetheless, Mikey is able to cover and score the winning goal. Mikey states that Tagiru reminds him of his old partner, Shoutmon, which saddens Ewan as it stirs his memories of Damemon.

As Mikey walks back home, he spots a Digimon being chased by a youth across the rooftops. He chases after the Digimon, but is stopped by Ryouma, who tells him that despite his reputation, he should stay out of the "hunt" and warps into DigiQuartz, which Mikey also recognizes and wonders what is happening.

Tagiru spends the time at the local arcade, where he runs into Ewan. As the two boys argue, Tagiru is distracted by flashes and spots the same Digimon. A boy named Ren then bumps into Tagiru and accosts him for getting in his way. Ewan notices his Fusion Loader and Tagiru chases after Ren, eventually finding him with two others warping into the Digital Realm. Ewan witnesses Tagiru head into DigiQuartz and quickly leaves to inform Mikey of the situation.

At DigiQuartz, Tagiru spots Ren and attempts to get payback, but he is quickly shoved to the side by the Digimon. Ren looks at their location and believed he saw something, but shrugs it off as his imagination. The entity is revealed to be a Digimon who tells Tagiru to remain quiet. Tagiru is shocked to see the Digimon, revealing himself as Gumdramon, who lured the group, so he could witness the fight that was about to occur. Gumdramon and Tagiru then peek from behind a car, where they witness Ren, Ryouma and a girl named Airu fight a MetalTyrannomon. Despite their attempts to hunt MetalTyrannomon, he is able to escape. Tagiru is immediately mesmerized by the Digimon and believes that it is a cool "game". He then reveals himself to the three. Ryouma notes that Tagiru must meet the qualifications to enter and explains that if he wishes to hunt, he will need a Digimon partner, and that a strong Hunter can acquire a powerful partner. He looks forward to seeing his performance in the future as the three leave.

Tagiru then decides to pair with Gumdramon for the hunt, although he expresses initial doubt that Gumdramon would be a strong partner, much to Gumdramon's anger. An old man then appears and brings Tagiru back to the human world to his shop, where he has a spare Fusion Loader lying around. Despite telling him that he cannot change his mind once he begins the Hunt, Tagiru accepts and grabs his Fusion Loader, which turns deep crimson, which the old man immediately interprets as fierce hunts in the future.

Elsewhere, Mikey takes out his Fusion Loader and tries to communicate with his allies in the Digital World to no avail. A commotion quickly occurs, and he goes off to investigate, running into Ewan. The windows above them shatter, and Mikey soon spots a Digimon causing havoc, along with Ryouma and his allies. Ewan then spots Tagiru with a Fusion Loader, and the two boys chase after him. Tagiru and Gumdramon find MetalTyrannomon first and attack. Gumdramon appears to have the upper hand until he attempts Fire Vortex, which Tagiru realizes as a mistake and tries to order him to stop, but MetalTyrannomon had feigned injury and bites Gumdramon's tail, severely injuring him. Tagiru narrowly saves Gumdramon from being eaten and the two land in an alleyway where MetalTyrannomon tries to force his way through. Despite the risk of dying, the two intend to fight to the very end, causing the light of digivolution to appear on their wrists.

Ryouma, Ren and Airu are seen observing from the top of a building when Airu asks Ryouma if he intends to save Tagiru. Ryouma states that he has no need to as he spots the digivolution light. Tagiru evolves Gumdramon into Arresterdramon, who defeats MetalTyrannomon and Tagiru captures his first Digimon. Ryouma's group leaves, while Mikey and Ewan soon reveal themselves and their own Fusion Loaders. Mikey's Fusion Loader is able to work and Shoutmon communicates with him. Gumdramon reflexively hides behind Tagiru as Gumdramon explains that Shoutmon is the Digimon King.

Quotes[]

Other notes[]

Continuity errors

  • Mikey instantly knows to use his Fusion Loader to view the invisible MetalTyrannomon, despite this being a never-before-seen function of the Fusion Loader.
  • Mikey's Fusion Loader allows him to speak to Shoutmon in the Digital World, despite Squawkers being required just for local communication in the last series.
  • The prologue depicts Shoutmon X7 fighting Bagramon while Mikey, Christopher Aonuma, Nene Amano, Jeremy Tsurgi, and Angie Hinomoto stand by. This scene never actually occurred in Digimon Fusion, as when Shoutmon X7 fought Bagramon, AxeKnightmon was present but Jeremy and Angie were not. Conversely, when Jeremy and Angie were present, Bagramon had become MegaDarknessBagramon and Shoutmon had become Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode. This may be interpreted as artistic license, though.

  • When the arcade backdoor closes, the camera is focused on two teens that look like Mimi Tachikawa and Joe Kido from Digimon Adventure 02.
