Synopsis[]
As Shoto Kazama and Yao Qinglan begin their duel, Owen Dreadnought states Shoto has no choice — with Arisa Kinosaki defending her friend and saying that Shoto has a chance to win. Finding Owen to be mean, Arisa angrily yells out how she regrets using Shoto's fandom of Owen to invite him to play the game with her. Owen shows little care to Shoto's like for Owen, and just says he will see what Shoto can do in this duel — with Arisa wanting Shoto to win even more so that it'll put Owen in his place.
As Shoto draws his first cards, he thinks back to how Cool Boy and Yao had invited them to the Garden as well as what they discussed after being brought there. Just as he was about to make his first move, everyone is suddenly transported to Lapis Marine. They find themselves in a tower on the beach where they could see girls in bikinis through the windows. This removes Shoto's motivation to duel, as he instead wanted to watch the girls — whilst Arisa and Pteromon become motivated to go see the sights and shop. Cool Boy is surprised to learn the duo had never been, with Arisa saying that she had prevented them from going as the NPCs were strong and she didn't think they were ready to come just yet. They ask why they had suddenly been teleported there, with Yao saying they couldn't duel in the Garden as it would cause the wild Digimon to become involved in the duel and that the tower was a good spot to duel as they were out of sight of the other players. Annoyed at however everyone was chatting instead of duelling, Elizamon tells them to get back to the duel as Owen is very busy and can't waste his time. As Pteromon becomes annoyed at Eliza and Owen, Shoto gains his resolve to duel again and prove Owen wrong.
Shoto is still confident in his chances of winning, despite being unable to use ST18-12, and remembers back to how he had edited his deck to play around the fact it was unable to be used (Yao unaware of this, fully expecting him to use it in the duel). The duel then begins.
Shoto and Arisa are surprised to when Yao uses BT19-024: MarineBullmon, a card they had never seen before, with Yao telling them that they had made sure to inform them beforehand how they had identified new wild Digimon. As she tells them how she had befriended and raised Sangomon, Shoto becomes surprised to learn that even existing Digimon could come with unknown Digimon cards via further digivolutions. Cool Boy then tells them that most of the debugging team had gained previously unknown Digimon cards this way. Arisa expresses desire to meet the debuggers and their unknown Digimon, though Bool Boy points out that Shoto will need to pass this duelling test for them to be able to do so.

Shoto Kazama vs. Yao Qinglan[]
Note: This section includes coverage of actions that were omitted in the comic but explained in its Battle Coverage article. This writeup uses ref notes to indicate these instances. In addition, standard actions such as drawing a card at start of turn or after digivolving are generally omitted for clarity.
Shoto goes first, and hatches EX7-004: Fluffymon then digivolves it to ST18-05: Muchomon[1]. He then plays a copy of ST18-04: Pteromon[1] for 3 cost and uses its On Play effect to reveal the top 3 cards of his deck and add 2 of them to his hand: one Bird or Avian Digimon and one Vortex Warrior or LIBERATOR card, then return any other cards to the bottom of his deck. He adds another copy of Muchomon (Avian) and ST18-14: Shoto Kazama (LIBERATOR)[1] and sends the third unspecified card to the bottom of his deck.
Yao hatches BT19-002: Puyoyomon, digivolves it to BT19-017: Sangomon, digivolves Sangomon to BT19-019: Shellmon for 2 memory, then digivolves Shellmon to BT19-024: MarineBullmon for 3 cost — putting Shoto at 2.
Shoto leaves Muchomon in the Breeding Area, and attacks Yao directly with Pteromon. Pteromon's attack reveals BT19-021: Xiquemon, with Pteromon dying due to Xiquemon's DP being higher. He pays 2 memory to digivolve Muchomon to ST18-07: Kokatorimon[1], then pays four memory to play ST18-14 — putting Yao at 4.
Yao moves MarineBullmon to the Battle Area, then pays 4 memory to play BT19-082: Yao Qinglan. She attacks Shoto directly with MarineBullmon and as an Aqua or Sea Animal type Digimon has attacked, she uses her Tamer's effect to suspend the Tamer and place one lv5 or lower Aqua or Sea Animal type Digimon from her hand under said attacking Digimon as a digivolution source — and uses the effect to place BT19-018: Swimmon. Due to Swimmon's inherited effect, MarineBullmon can no longer be destroyed in security battles as it has gained the Jamming effect. MarineBullmon checks a copy of ST18-13: Eaglemon, and survives despite having lower DP due to its newly gained Jamming effect. After the battle, Yao gains 2 memory via Shellmon and Sangomon's inherited effects — putting her at 2 — and then plays a copy of Xiquemon for 5 cost, putting Shoto at 3.
Shoto draws, moves Kokatorimon to the Battle Area, pays 3 memory to digivolve it to BT17-047: Parrotmon, and uses its When Digivolving effect to suspend Xiquemon. He has Parrotmon attack the now suspended Xiquemon, though Yao uses Puyoyomon's inherited effect under MarineBullmon to return MarineBullmon (who fits the effects requirements, as it only works if the Digimon Puyoyomon is under is Aqua or Sea Animal type) to the bottom of her deck (which would also send Puyoyomon, Sangomon, Swimmon, and Shellmon to the trash) to return an opponent's Digimon back to their hand if it is the same or lower level than the Digimon Yao sent as she was just attacked. As both MarineBullmon and Parrotmon are lv5, Parrotmon returns to Shoto's hand — whilst Fluffymon, Muchomon, and Kokatorimon go to the trash. Yao uses MarineBullmon's Decode effect, allowing her to play a lv4 Blue Digimon from its sources when it dies outside of battle, using the effect to play Shellmon.
Other notes[]
Continuity errors
- In the English version, when Shoto Kazama's security is checked — it refers to ST18-13: Eaglemon with its Japanese name Crossmon. This is inconsistent with the real life card, which is named Eaglemon in English, and later in the chapter Shoto refers to another copy of the card as Eaglemon.

Synopsis[]
The duel between Shoto Kazama and Yao Qinglan continues.
Shoto eventually wins, with Yao shocked at him using EX8-074: MedievalGallantmon instead of ST18-12: Zephagamon (unaware he had lost access to Zephagamon).
Shoto and Arisa celebrate, with Yao and Cool Boy congratulating him. The GMs receive a message, with Cool Boy realizing what time it was — causing both to quickly leave. Shoto tells Arisa that he has actually known Owen Dreadnought for a long time, and that they lived in the same neighbourhood when they were kids. Arisa is surprised and annoyed to have only just learned this, though Shoto says he didn't tell her as they didn't live nearby for that long as Owen moved away before they could properly get to know each other.
Owen tells Shoto he is weak as he lacks the passion to win and just wants to have fun and tells him that if he can't find that passion he never wants to see him again. Shoto didn't hear him say this though, due to some sort of glitch.[citation needed] Though he doesn't remember what was just said, he still gains the desire to one day impress Owen. As Shoto won the match, he and Arisa receive messages saying they been accepted into the debugging team.

Gameplay notes[]
Shoto Kazama vs. Yao Qinglan[]
Note: This section includes coverage of actions that were omitted in the comic but explained in its Battle Coverage article. This writeup uses ref notes to indicate these instances. In addition, standard actions such as drawing a card at start of turn or after digivolving are generally omitted for clarity.
Shoto Kazama pays 3 memory to play ST18-05: Muchomon[1] from his hand — putting Yao Qinglan at 3.
Yao hatches BT19-002: Puyoyomon, unsuspends BT19-021: Xiquemon and BT19-082: Yao Qinglan — and then attacks Shoto directly with Xiquemon, with this revealing a copy of Parrotmon: BT17-047.[1] As Xiquemon has lower DP than Parrotmon, it dies.[1] Yao attacks with BT19-019: Shellmon, and as an Aqua or Sea Animal type Digimon has attacked, she uses her Tamer's effect to suspend itself and place one lv5 or lower Aqua or Sea Animal type Digimon from her hand under said attacking Digimon as a digivolution source — and uses the effect to place BT19-018: Swimmon[1]. Due to Swimmon's inherited effect, Shellmon can no longer be destroyed in security battles as it has gained the Jamming effect. It battles ST18-08: Galemon and survives despite its lower DP due to its Jamming inherited effect. Galemon's security effect activates, allowing Shoto to play a Digimon with the LIBERATOR trait that has a Play Cost of 4 or lower from his hand. He uses this effect to play EX7-032: Galemon[1]. Yao digivolves Puyoyomon to BT19-017: Sangomon, digivolves Sangomon to BT19-019: Shellmon for 2 memory, then digivolves Shellmon to BT19-024: MarineBullmon for 3 cost — putting Shoto at 2.
Shoto's Tamer card sets his memory to 3, after which he hatches EX7-004: Fluffymon then digivolves it to EX7-031: Pteromon. He attacks Yao directly with Muchomon, with this revealing another copy of BT19-082 — which plays itself for free on Yao's field.
- When TIPS 11 Battle Coverage (3) VS. The Crystal Sea Palace shows Yao's security at the start of the duel, it incorrectly claims her second card was BT19-023: Huankunmon. The comic, and the actual description of the duel, state it is her Tamer card. It had to have been her Tamer card, as she later has two on the field and Muchomon would've died to Huankunmon (it is still alive later in the duel).
Shoto pays 3 memory to digivolve Galemon to ST18-09: Deramon — putting him at 0 memory — then attacks with Deramon. Deramon's attack checks a Swimmon, with it surviving since it has higher DP.
- TIPS 11 Battle Coverage (3) VS. The Crystal Sea Palace claims Yao's third security card was another copy of Shellmon. Regardless of if it fought Shellmon or Swimmon, its DP was higher.
This leaves Yao with 2 security. Shoto pays 4 memory to digivolve Deramon to ST18-13: Eaglemon and uses its When Digivolving effect to return 1 suspended Digimon to Yao's hand (he targets Shellmon).
Yao unsuspends her Tamer card, then moves MarineBullmon from the Breeding Area to the Battle Area. She pays 4 memory and digivolves MarineBullmon to BT19-027: Ryugumon then uses its When Digivolving effect to play a lv4 or lower blue Digimon from its digivolutions sources for free (Sangomon). Sangomon's On Play effect activates, revealing the top 3 cards of her deck and allowing her to add a card with Aqua or Sea Animal to her hand, as well as a card with the LIBERATOR trait. She uses the effect to add Xiquemon (Aqua) and BT19-092: Wadatsumi Purification (LIBERATOR) to her hand, and puts the unspecified third card to the bottom of her deck. She attacks directly with Ryugumon and uses one of her Tamer's effects to place BT19-023: Huankunmon under it as a digivolution source — who's inherited effect makes it so that Ryugumon's attack target cannot be changed. Ryugumon's attack checks EX7-064: Shoto Kazama, which plays itself on Shoto's field for free. At the end of the attack, Shellmon and MarineBullmon's inherited effects activate. Shellmon gives Yao 1 memory, whilst MarineBullmon allows Yao to play a lv4 or lower Aqua or Sea Animal Digimon from Ryugumon's digivolution sources for free. Yao moves from 0 memory to 1, and plays Shellmon. Yao pays 5 memory, putting Shoto at 4, and plays Wadatsumi Purification — which allows her to return one lv4 or lower Digimon to the bottom of Shoto's deck, though if she instead sends one of her own blue Digimon to her deck she can change the effect to instead send a lv6 or lower Digimon. She returns Sangomon, then sends Eaglemon to the bottom of Shoto's deck (also sending Galemon and Deramon to the Trash).
After drawing a card, Shoto moves Pteromon from the Breeding Area to the Battle Area then uses the effect of EX7-064 gain a memory as Yao has at least one Digimon on her field at the start of his Main Phase. This moves him to 5 memory. He digivolves Pteromon to Galemon (EX7-004) and this activates Pteromon's effect — allowing Shoto to digivolve for one less memory as Pteromon is digivolving to an Avian or Bird Digimon — meaning he only has to pay 1 memory for this digivolution (putting Yao at 4). He pays 3 memory (putting Yao at 1) to digivolve Galemon to EX7-034: GrandGalemon and uses its When Digivolving effect to suspend a Digimon (itself). As Shoto suspended one of his own Digimon, GrandGalemon is immune to the effect's of Yao's Digimon until the end of her next turn. Shoto pays 3 memory (putting Yao at 2) and digivolves GrandGalemon to EX8-074: MedievalGallantmon then uses its When Digivolving effect to suspend a Digimon and then Delete a Digimon. He can delete a Digimon with 8000DP or higher, though the DP amount increases by 3000 for each suspended Digimon on the field (not counting itself). He suspends Shellmon, and chooses not to delete anything[1]. At the end of Shoto's turn, EX7-064's effect activates suspending itself to give Piercing and Blocker to one of his Digimon. In addition, if it is a Vortex Warrior, it unsuspends. Shoto gives these effects to the Vortex Warrior MedievalGallantmon and uses its Vortex effect — allowing it to attack at the end of Shoto's turn. It attacks Shellmon, then uses its Alliance effect to suspend one of Shoto's Digimon (Muchomon), add Muchomon's DP to its own — taking it from 11000 to 12000[1] — and give itself Security Attack+1. Muchomon's effect then activates, giving a Bird or Vortex Warrior 3000DP as it had been suspended by an effect — increasing MedievalGallantmon's DP even further to 15000.[1] GrandGalemon's inherited effect will unsuspended MedievalGallantmon after the battle.
Yao activates Puyoyomon's inherited effect under Ryugumon to return Ryugumon (who fits the effects requirements, as it only works if the Digimon Puyoyomon is under is Aqua or Sea Animal type) to the bottom of her deck (which would also send Puyoyomon, Swimmon, MarineBullmon, and Huankunmon to the trash) to return an opponent's Digimon back to their hand if it is the same or lower level than the Digimon Yao sent as she was just attacked. Yao uses the effect to send Muchomon back to Shoto's hand (who is lv3, far below Ryugumon's lv6) then uses Ryugumon's Decode effect to play one of its digivolution sources for free — using it to play Huankunmon. Huankunmon's On Play effect activates, making one of Yao's Digimon immune to battle destruction for one turn with Yao using this to try and protect Shellmon from MedievalGallantmon's attack (MarineBullmon, Swimmon, and Puyoyomon go to the Trash, alongside Ryugumon returning to the deck). As Shellmon seemingly survived, MedievalGallantmon would be unable to use its Piercing effect (as it has to kill a Digimon for it to work) though Shoto activates MedievalGallantmon's Once Per Turn effect. As someone just played a Digimon, MedievalGallantmon can use its When Digivolving effect again, and suspends and then deletes Huankunmon. As it is still Shoto's turn, his effect activates first, and so MedievalGallantmon deletes Huankunmon before it can use its own effect. As it was deleted before its effect could protect Shellmon, its effect fails and so Shellmon can still die by battle. The attack continues with the inherited effects of Fluffymon, Pteromon, and Galemon activating each giving Shoto 1 memory (as all 3 have the same effect) as MedievalGallantmon just destroyed a Digimon in battle. This puts Shoto at 1, allowing his turn to continue. MedievalGallantmon checks two security via its Piercing effect and battles against MarineBullmon and Ryugumon — surviving due to its DP being higher. MedievalGallantmon unsuspends and attacks again — winning the duel for Shoto as Yao had no more security.
- The Battle Coverage claims the final two cards in Yao's security were Swimmon and MarineBullmon, rather than MarineBullmon and Ryugumon — though regardless of which Digimon it fought it doesn't matter as GrandGalemon is stronger than all of them.
Other notes[]
Continuity errors
- Shoto Kazama incorrectly states BT17-047: Parrotmon was sent back to his deck, when it was actually sent back to his hand. TIPS 11 Battle Coverage (3) VS. The Crystal Sea Palace correctly states it went back to his hand.
Animation errors
- In the original release, the symbols on MedievalGallantmon's chest and head were colored red instead of green. This was inconsistent with EX8-074: MedievalGallantmon and MedievalGallantmon's design. At some point before September 29, this was fixed.
- In the original English release, just like in Part One, ST18-13: Eaglemon was referred to as both Eaglemon and Crossmon. At some point before September 29, all instances of Crossmon were changed to Eaglemon.
- In the English version, when EX8-074: MedievalGallantmon attacks and uses the inherited effects of EX7-004: Fluffymon, EX7-031: Pteromon, and EX7-004, the cards are left untranslated.
