The Eighth Digivice

When one of Myotismon's henchmen is spotted late at night, Izzy is the only one left awake to stop him causing trouble, and ends up tracking a signal from the eighth Digivice.

Synopsis

In his secret location, somewhere in Tokyo, Myotismon is angered to hear from DemiDevimon that the kids have already defeated two of his henchmen Mammothmon and Gesomon.

Meanwhile, Tai is on his way home, when he begins to wonder if his little sister Kari might be the eighth child, because she also witnessed the events at Highton View Terrace four years ago, just like the other DigiDestined. Her parent arrive home and as she goes to greet them the family cat Miko is curiously sniffing the Digivice under her bed. When Tai arrives home, much to his parent's surprise he is very happy to see them, and quite emotional too.

Izzy goes back to his apartment too, lets Tentomon through his window, so his mom doesn't see. He then leaves, and when he returns, installs a lock on his door as to keep Tentomon a secret. Izzy then has a flash back of overhearing his parents talking, revealing that he was adopted. Izzy takes his dinner to his room to share with Tentomon, and meanwhile Tai is doing the same with Koromon.

Tai asks Kari if she has a Digivice, which she responds no, and then he shows her his. and is dissapointed to hear that she doesn't have one. But it turns out that the pet cat, Miko, has in fact taken the eighth digivice, and ends up travelling with it in a lorry to another location. The Digivice starts reacting when the truck goes over a bridge. A shadow shrouded Digimon in the water is seen with one of Myotismon's Crests, it is also glowing. DemiDevimon is also nearby with one of the copied crests, and it's glowing too.

Thanks to a message from Gennai on his laptop, Izzy and Tentomon (being the only ones awake at the time) learn of the Digimon nearby and begin tracking down another one of Myotismon's henchmen. They find Raremon, the creature from the water. As a battle ensues, Izzy gets a signal from the eighth Digivice, and decides to follow it by himself. However, DemiDevimon is also following a signal from the Digivice (which Miko abandoned), and finds Izzy. Kabuterimon, fresh from defeating Raremon in an intense battle, comes to the rescue just in time, while the eighth digivice is carried away by a crow.

Izzy returns home to his quite parents, and just like in the flashback, overhears them talking. They are concerned that he has changed since returned home from camp, and are worried he is hiding something. Meanwhile, Tai gets a signal from the eighth Digivice, when it is really just the crow flying overhead with it.

Dubbing changes

DemiDevimon's Demi Dart attack, which he tries to use in the original episode against Izzy, is cut out of the English dub.

Real-world references

We see Tai and Izzy arrive in their home district of Odaiba, where most of the upcoming episodes will take place until Myotismon's defeat.
Raremon's appearance and attack on a dance club imitate Hedorah from the Godzilla film Godzilla vs. Hedorah. In the original version, Raremon also sounds a lot like Hedorah.

Miscellaneous trivia

Izzy announces the episode title in the Japanese episode.
This episode features the Kamiyas' cat, Miko, who hasn't been seen since the first Digimon movie.
Izzy's adoption is revealed this episode. It was previously hinted in the episode Kabuterimon's Electro Shocker, though not confirmed.
Tai suspects that his sister might be the eighth child, but he changes his mind when she doesn't recall having ever seen a digivice.
