DA02 ep45 recap (LQ)

Episode recap for The Dark Gate.

Synopsis

Having already transferred copies of the Dark Spore from Ken to the kidnapped children, Yukio Oikawa leaves Ken at the mercy of Daemon as he prepares to flee with Arukenimon and Mummymon. When Davis and the other Digi-Destined arrive to help, their DNA-Digivolved Digimon are no match for Daemon's power. He further proves that sending him to the Digital World is futile as he can open a portal to there himself. Ken realizes there is one place that they can send Daemon that he can't escape from: The Dark Ocean. As Ken struggles to open the portal to the Dark Ocean with his D-3, it takes a huge strain on him, but with the support of the other Digi-Destined, he is able to fully open the portal, before Imperialdramon, Silphymon, and Shakkoumon blast him through and the portal is sealed behind him, though Daemon vows to return. As for Oikawa, Arukenimon, and Mummymon, they are forced to leave the kidnapped children behind and retreat as the police approach, resulting in where the children are returned to their parents, but the Digi-Destined learn from Ken of what happened and realize that the kids now will essentially become like Ken due to the Dark Spore's influence and decide to keep an eye on them from now on...

Quotes

Daemon: You may think you've seen the last of me, but I will be back.

Oikawa: "Children, listen to me closely. Remember this place. One day I will call you back here. Remember what I told you."

—The dark plan is still not over..

Other notes

Continuity errors

  • Soon after Imperialdramon Fighter Mode appears, a clip from the episode "Dramon Power" is shown, in which Ken and Davis are absorbed into Imperialdramon Dragon Mode's forcefield.
  • In the English dub, when Jim brings Yolei back home, he apologizes to "Mrs. Inoue", presumably Yolei's mother, even though only her two sisters are seen.

Animation errors

  • The Digimon Analyzer uses Daemon's Japanese name, "Demon", instead of his English name.

Dubbing changes

  • In the Japanese version, when the Digimon force Daemon into the Dark Ocean, the opening theme song, Target ~Akai Shougeki~ plays in the background. This is replaced by generic music in the English dub.

Miscellaneous trivia

  • Ken announces the episode title in the Japanese episode.
  • This is one of the few episodes in the entire Digimon anime series to retain its original Japanese title in the English dub. The other is The Insect Master's Trap.
