- Well, do we want to at least claim it as an etymology? I mean, the Japanese Wikipedia article ベム states it means "bug-eyed monster" or "big-eyed monster", and the article is the Japanese equivalent of Bug-eyed monster. The only other two meanings for ベム I can think of are Bem from Yōkai Ningen Bem, a manga about three monsters who fight darkness believing can become humans in return for their good actions, and the Machine Bem from the Spider-Man tokusatsu, who were creations of Professor Monster, an alien invader who destroyed planet Spider 400 years before the plot, and were able to shrink into toy-size or grow to giant size, and are literally the precursors of the growing monsters from Super Sentai. The former doesn't fit, as Vemmon is clearly not supernatural-based, and the latter is just athe Japanese taking a thematical word to name the enemy, like most tokusatsu from the 70's did (I mean, the big bad is just named Professor Monster, and his final form is Big Monster, and the use of the term "Bem" here is clearly a reference to the series's alien plot), and still doesn't fit because Vemmon is not shown to be able to sizeshift.
- Jisho.org also lists Bem as "unclassified name", meaning there's no info on whether it's a personal name, surname, or place name that is being referenced. Anime... PAAWAA!!! 20:54, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
