Sangomon is the partner Digimon of Yao Qinglan in Digimon Liberator.
Appearance[]
Description[]
Sangomon has a very needy and childlike personality, and sees Yao Qinglan as a parental figure. It relies entirely on Yao for care without questioning its own dependence. However, Sangomon is highly intelligent and is similar to Yao in being capable despite having a casual attitude. Its intelligence proves valuable when it comes to game administration and debugging. Not infrequently, Yao will provide data, and then the two of them will debate the appropriate course of action.
Attacks
- Refuge Mist: Spreads a poisonous, lachrymatory mist from its coral when attacked by intruders.
- Coral Pressure: Releases high-pressure water from the ends of its arms.
Fiction[]
Digimon Liberator[]
When Yao Qinglan duels Shoto Kazama to see if he would be allowed to join the debug team, Sangomon watches from within her D-STORAGE. It comes out briefly during it to introduce itself, then goes right back into it. Vortex Resonance (Part 1) Vortex Resonance (Part 2)
After Violet "Vi" Inboots loses to Sam the Clown during the BlackImperialdramon rampage, she sends her duel logs to Yao since Sam had cheated and changed his cards mid duel to defeat her. Yao becomes surprised and alarmed at the fact that Sam had used "that power" to turn its cards into different cards mid duel as that ability wasn't supposed to be able to be used on regular cards. After the duel, Shoto had shown up and used his Unique Emblem to force Sam to duel him. As Yao and Sangomon travel to get to the duel, Sangomon tells Yao they need to hurry so that they can get there sooner, though Yao says that she can't go any faster as so many players logging out at once alongside the BlackImperialdramon rampage had caused the servers to be going much slower than usual. Sangomon asks what will happen if Shoto loses like Violet had, with Yao saying she will do what Shoto did and use her Unique Emblem to take over in his place. This worries Sangomon, as intervening in a duel that had already intervened in would put Yao's data at risk — though Yao says that's a risk she'll just have to take. As they arrive, they see it was currently Shoto's turn and watch. SHOW ME YOUR BRAVE HEART (Part 1) Yao begins to activate her Unique Emblem when it seems like Shoto was about to lose due to Sam cheating again, though she winds up not having to as Shoto uses the power to change his cards as well and wins. This destroyed Sam/Wormmon/Figther Mode — saving LACUNA. SHOW ME YOUR BRAVE HEART (Part 1)
A while afterwards, the debug team watches as a large amount of Maquinamon burst out of the destroyed remains of E.G.G., with them landing all over LACUNA. Regular players, unaware of what they were, were excited — whilst the debug team felt despair upon seeing them. Unchained appears on a monitor, and asks everyone if they want to "race towards the ending". The regular players assume this is referring to the announced but unknown dated quest that leads into the end of Liberator's main storyline, and so get even more hyped up. As Unchained gives more information, they use the fake name Chained — pretending to be the NPC of the same name from the game's main storyline. Unchained informs the players that the previously announced quest was about to begin, and that Liberator was about to come to its end.
Unchained tells the group that the many Digimon they saw earlier were named Maquinamon, that they had spread all over LACUNA, and that some of them had even digivolved. They explain that when a Maquinamon digivolves, it parasites an NPC and that parasited NPC will duel players. By defeating an NPC, a player will earn a point — and to progress to the next stage of an event, a player must obtain a certain amount of points. Unchained also tell them that if a parasited NPC defeats a player, the digivolved Maquniamon will switch from parasiting the NPC and will instead parasite the player who just lost. Players have no choice but to take part in the event as they cannot log out, and the NPC will be hunting for players. Once a certain amount of players progress to the next round, it will begin — with the players having to duel against a character supposedly created for the event — "Xeno", who is actually Zenith (this fact unknown to anyone but Unchained) with the goal being to prove that the outsiders (players) are worthy of ruling LACUNA. The debug team then travel to the Sanctuary, where Yuuki and Huckmon were, with this being the new base of operations for the debug team. Huckmon tells everyone that there was no "LACUNA poison" there, and that Digimon were able to come and go as they please. It hadn't wanted to let humans in at first, but allowed them in thanks to its recent friendship with Yuuki. The other debuggers were also there. Owen asks Yao if the "event" had been organized by the admins, with Yao confirming that they had nothing to do with it. She explains that Unchained took control of E.G.G and had forcefully gained control of high security Digimon, and has no idea why. As everyone wonders what Unchained was up to, Close says she knows why. PRELUDE OF DESTRUCTION (Part 1)
Close thanks back to the BlackImperialdramon rampage, and figures that Unchained was likely the one behind it. Since she was Unchained's sister, she knew things no one else did — such as how Unchained one day planned to over take E.G.G. so that they could "liberate" all the Digimon in the Garden. Shoemon points out how awful this would be, since the Digimon in the Garden would die if they had to return to LACUNA. Close counters that, by saying that that's why there's so many Maquinamon — they could handle harsh conditions like LACUNA and survive, much like Pteromon and the others. She tells them that Unchained had been rewriting Digimon, turning them into Maquinamon — Owen asking if that meant the fifty Maquinamon were originally Digimon from the Garden. Close, though not sure, says it was the only explanation that made sense. Violet asks why she would do this, with Close saying that shortly after her birth, Unchained told her that they planned to turn LACUNA into an ark so that they can reach the "true Digital World" — and that Close had been born to be the cornerstone of this plan. Shocked at hearing how Unchained had been planning this for over a year, the debug team ask why she hadn't brought it up until now — though Close just apologizes and says she was doing as she was told by her sibling. Close says she didn't know just how big a deal Unchained's plan was until now — but as she was aware now, she no longer wanted to Unchained's puppet. She declares she will stop Unchained's plan, with Sunarizamon apologizing as well and asking the debug team to help Close. Though some of them are still angry at Close having hidden it from them, the debug team agree to help.
Yao explains that they recently learned that when a regular player is "deleted" by a rogue NPC or Digimon, they're not actually deleted — they're transferred to Cross Connectia — debuggers able to avoid this thanks to their Unique Emblem. Arisa worries that the NPC would cheat and overwrite cards like Sam the Clown had, Yao saying she thinks that shouldn't happen as she had worked hard on updating the game to stop that ability. Just in case though, she instructs the debug team to work in pairs — and that if their partner was about to lose, the other should intervene. Arisa was still worried, since Unchained was someone who had been able to take over LACUNA, though Owen points out that Unchained would've destroyed the world by now if that was their goal. Owen figures the Imperialdramon weren't actually intended to destroy the world, and that Uhchained just wants to have controlling LACUNA be the goal for completing Digimon Liberator. Shoto brings up how the log out feature had been removed, though Yao says she and some other players have the ability to log out — the only ones who don't are the ones using T.A.L.E's test models, all of which are members of the debug team. This meant Unchained had declared war on the debug team. As Arisa says she's scared, Pteromon tells her — and everyone else — not to be, since the debug team was filled with strong players. Shoto and Violet say the'll back Arisa up, this enough to calm her down.
Yao wonders about "Xeno" the "NPC" who was with Unchained, thinking about how it looked like Zenith. As she wonders what happened to Zenith, Close starts to feel pain. When Shoto asks if she's okay, she says Unchained is waiting for her and that she needs to hurry up and go to Unchained. As Close runs away, Arisa and Violet chase after her. Shoto worries over the three of them, though Owen says they'll be fine. Yao then declares the mission to stop Unchained and Xeno had started. PRELUDE OF DESTRUCTION (Part 2)
Whilst looking into the data from Cool Boy, Yao finds a pre-recorded message from him that sends her and Sangomon to a deserted island in Lapis Marine with the goal of finding a specific treasure chest. They look around, and find the treasure chest they were looking for. Yao thinks about how Cool Boy had seemingly figured out what Unchained was up to ahead of time, and wonders why he hadn't told anyone about his suspicions. Sangomon tries to open the box, though is unable to — leading Yao to begin hacking it. As she does, she wonders on if whatever is inside is actually needed — and if it would help save Cool Boy or even bring and end to Unchained's schemes. As Sangomon is in the middle of giving a pep talk to its tamer, a MockingBirdmon carrying an NPC arrives and attacks them. Yao realizes that means they were being attacked by Unchained, and that going this far shows just how motivated Unchained is to stop them. Not wanting the box to be destroyed, Yao challenges the NPC to a duel — with the NPC unable to turn down battle requests. She realizes it'll be tough, as not only will she need to hack into the box — she'll also need to duel at the same time, and if she loses — her character data will be deleted and the NPC will destroy the box. The NPC uses Appmon cards — with Yao having no idea what Appmon are. This makes the duel even harder, as she is facing unknown cards. UNKNOWN BREAKER (Part 1) During the duel, she struggles to focus on both and ends up making a mistake whilst hacking. Just as it looks like Yao was going to lose, Yao's resolve to not give up and duel like Shoto Kazama has her Unique Emblem activate and transform her P-036: Blue Memory Boost! into the card BT22-096: Unique Emblem: Poseidia Lagoon — which allows her to survive. Later in the duel, just after successfully hacking the chest, she overrides and changes an unspecified card into BT22-028: Ariemon — her new cards helping her to win.
With the duel over and the NPC destroyed, the duo get a crystal from inside the box — with Yao revealing she had actually gained access to the crystal during the duel, with the crystal being an item that makes it "more possible to digivolve things" — which is what had caused Ariemon to happen. Sangomon and Yao become confused as to why Cool Boy would send them to fetch such an item, but decide to just ignore what had happened so she could focus on the battles ahead. They watch shooting stars together, though become surprised when one of them lands in front of them. They see that Mirai and Hanimon had suddenly appeared before them, with Yao realizing that them returning from Cross Connectia meant they had found a way to save Cool Boy. UNKNOWN BREAKER (Part 2) Mirai looks at her D-STORAGE and sees that the quest to end Liberator was currently in progress. She asks Yao if the event is fun, with Yao saying that it isn't followed by her explaining what had happened whilst Mirai was in Connectia. Instead of taking it seriously, Mirai just thinks abut how cool the reward is and how the players must be enjoying the event. Seeing just how big the reward is (lots of alt art cards), Mirai wonders if she should join the event too, though Yao tells her to calm down and that she has a special role to play as the longest tenured debug member...alongside the fact she doesn't even have her own deck. Hanimon tells Yao about their meeting with Yuuki, then claims they returned as Mirai's "sixth sense" had sensed Arisa was in trouble and as such Mirai wanted to help her. Though Yao tries to keep Mirai out of the action, Hanimon says that Mirai will listen to neither it or Yao and will just do what she wants — with Mirai agreeing and saying she has a secret strategy. Yao leaves the decision to Mirai, and is surprised when Mirai activates her Unique Emblem and leaves. UNKNOWN BREAKER (Part 1)
