Fiction[]

Reiji lives with his older sister. During elementary school he used to take care of Taro in an empty lot near his house. One day when taking bread to Taro, he found two boys bullying the dog and scared them away. The next day he found Taro missing with his collar on the ground, and heard the boys saying it must have been put down after one of them told his mother it was dangerous. After that, Reiji would often bring stray dogs and cats home, and befriended many of them.

Years later, he fights Kim and Moto-yan in an alley after they have attacked Wanyamon, and scares them away. Believing Wanyamon to be a cat, Reiji takes him home, where he finds his sister and her friends drinking and watching the flowers in his room, and kicks them out. Reiji tries giving tuna sashimi to Wanyamon, who reacts by throwing the plate at him. Reiji eats one piece to show it is not poisoned, and convinces Wanyamon to eat it. At night, Reiji tells Wanyamon he is glad he could rescue him. Days pass, and Wanyamon refuses to open up to Reiji.

Reiji goes to a convenience store to buy food for Wanyamon, and returns to find Eve in his room. Eve explains Wanyamon is a Digimon, a cyber weapon from 300 years in the future, and her mission is to prevent the "annihilation paradox", which an AI predicts will destroy humankind and will be caused by a Digimon going back to the past. Reiji protects Wanyamon from Kuwagamon's attack, and reasons the future is a bad place. Reiji chases Devidramon into the Network after it kidnaps Wanyamon, and is also restrained by the Digimon. Eve asks why Reiji is trying so much to protect a weapon, and the boy responds Wanyamon is just a living being trying to survive. Wanyamon digivolves to Elecmon and fights against Devidramon by Reiji's side, a bond Eve believes to be unthinkable. The group returns to Reiji's room, and he offers to help Eve, now unable to return to the future, as long as she doesn't try to kill Elecmon. The Beginning of the End

Reiji asks his sister if Eve could stay, thinking she'd say no. Instead, she agreed to allow her to stay, and even chose to live in the same room as Reiji – with the fact her being in the same room as him causing his inability to sleep.

One time at night, a hungry Elecmon demands food.

The next day, one of Reiji's friends worry about the fact he's so tired – with Reiji beating himself up inside over having asked his sister for help. He becomes surprised when "Eve Shinonome" walks in, his supposed relative who was attending his school from today onwards as a new transfer student. Everyone reacts positively to her introduction, sans the distraught Reiji. Reiji asks why she was even here, with Eve saying his sister had forced her to attend against her will. She says Elecmon had been told to stay home, though when Eve talks about how weird she feels in the school uniform Elecmon shows up and says it loves it. Having no clue how it even showed up, Eve figures it had used the Network to send itself to Reiji's phone and as such had gone against orders.

They go to the roof for a private chat, where Reiji asks how Eve plans to get her time machine back, with Eve saying that she does have one way to find it. She tries to summon Kuwagamon from her damaged arm, though is unable to do so since the Internet in this time period isn't advanced enough to deal with her future technology. She tries multiple things, but nothing works – all failing because of the more primitive Internet. As she loses all hope on ever getting back to the future, Reiji snaps her out of it by telling her he will take her to a shrine.

Eve enjoys the view and and feel of the shrine, with it full of flowers and people. Having seemingly never seen something like this before, Reiji answers all of her curious questions – which leads to her and Elecmon having fun. Eve tries to catch a fish in one of the stall games, though loses. The man running the cart feels bad for her though, and gives her the fish anyway since he didn't want to see such a cute girl upset. She asks if she can eat the fish, though when told no questions why not since you're supposed to do so after catching one. Instead, Reiji buys Taiyaki for them to eat together. As they eat it, Reiji asks for more information on her goal, with Eve confirming that with a fixed time machine she can send Devidramon back to the future, which will supposedly solve the time paradox. Reiji excitedly celebrates this fact, since it means she doesn't have to till Elecmon to achieve her goal. Eve bonds with Elecmon over food, with Eve realizing that Elecmon has its own will and wasn't a bad Digimon. She wonders on if this Elecmon is really the reason for the paradox, and proceeds to live a happy life together with her new family.

Some time later, Reiji says that though he did what he did to protect Elecmon — he now wanted to help Eve too, and that she was all alone in this time period. Elecmon says it likes her too, and the two of them agree to do their best to get Eve home.

As the months pass, Reiji finds very few clues — with Eve now spending most of her time simply staring out the window.

On day, during another failed search, it beings to rain — with Elecmon saying this feels like the future. It says it is always raining there, with Eve adding that there were no seasons in the future and that they can't see the Sun or the sky. Eve ponders over if she could even rerturn to the future, with how much she was enjoying the peace of the past. Noticing this, Reiji asks if she wants to return — with her response being that she has to as it is her mission to save humanity and then return to the future. As she laments over how she may not be able to stay long enough to see summer weather, Reiji decides to show her what the World looks like without rain and decides to take her to Kyoto since it isn't raining there. She worries about them using the Internet to travel there, as she was worried Devidramon could attack them whilst they were traveling — though Reiji says that would actually be a good thing since they have no leads anyway and so they should just leap into action and create their own leads.

As they reach the Tori gates signifying that they were about to arrive at Kyoto, Kuwagamon says that Eve was right — and the gates are blown up by a MetalGreymon. Eve realizes that it was actually a digivolved Devidramon, with Reiji and Elecmon excited to beat it up. Reiji's baseball bat-lead attack does nothing, with MetalGreymon able to effortless swat him away. With Elecmon freaking out over its partner's well being, Eve sends Kuwagamon to attack. Elecmon, seeing its partner in a bloody mess cries — then angrily digivolves to DarkTyrannomon with the intent to kill MetalGreymon in revenge. An unknown human watches on, and says the plan was going perfectly and tells someone to collect that one too. Kuwagamon asks Eve permission to kill DarkTyrannomon, though Reiji gets up and reminds her of the promise she made not to kill it. DarkTyrannomon snaps out of its rampage, with Eve surprised at the fact it was able to control itself. She sends Kuwagamon to join its side, with Reiji declaring he will get Eve's time machine back. A dark aura manifests, with the unknown human's voice coming through it — with it stating that Reiji knows nothing. As Reiji realizes MetalGreymon was far too strong and that DarkTyrannomon was going to die, Eve has Kuwagamon attack it to buy Reiji time and tells him to restrain MetalGreymon. He has no idea how, though notices the Tori gates and says they can use them to restrain it. Kuwagamon's distractions are enough for DarkTyrannomon to put the plan into motion, with MetalGreymon now restrained on the floor. Kuwagamon prepares to kill it, though Reiji yells out for it to stop. Eve is surprised, with Reiji saying he will not allow her to kill MetalGreymon. Instead, he has her put it into a freeze stasis. The unknown human says he had made a mistake, though now knows how strong they are and would be the one to seek them next time. He reveals himself to Eve, with a shocked Eve recognising him.

Later that night, as Elecmon recovers, Eve analyses the MetalGreymon's data and realizes it isn't actually Devidramon as it didn't have her time machine. She worries over the fact that so many Digimon were crossing over to the past, and reaffirms that she will have to kill Digimon to resolve the paradox. She points out that she hadn't actually killed any though, and wonders why she was acting so weird. Reiji tells her that she is fine, and that the issue wasn't her — it was the future. She tries to leave and move out of Reiji's house, not wanting to put him in any more danger, but as he grabs her to try and stop her he ends up causing them both to fall down. With Reiji on top of her, his hearts beat faster and they lean towards each other — Reiji thinking he's going to get a kiss. Instead though, she leans to his ear and tells him she isn't a human, she's an AI. She tells him that since she isn't human, there's no point in risking his life for her. Beyond the Rain
