Synopsis[]

In LACUNA, Yuuki, Winr, and others play the Digimon Card Game.

Frozen Knight and Shoto Kazama's duel continues, with Pteromon entering Shoto's D-STORAGE so it could take part in the duel.

As the duel turns in favor of Frozen Knight due to EX7-023: Hexeblaumon, Pteromon tells Shoto not worry as they have three security cards left and that he should take his time with Digimon in his Breeding Area as that'll eventually give them the chance to win.

Gameplay notes[]

Frozen Knight vs. Shoto Kazama[]

Note: This section includes coverage of actions that were omitted in the comic but explained in its Battle Coverage article. This writeup uses ref notes to indicate these instances. In addition, standard actions such as drawing a card at start of turn or after digivolving are generally omitted for clarity.

The battle conditions change, moving two cards from Frozen Knight's security to the field. It puts EX7-017: SnowAgumon into its Battle Area and digivolves Frozen Knight's EX7-002: Hiyarimon[1] in the Breeding Area into EX7-016: Bulucomon.

  • Bulucomon digivolving on top of Hiyarimon isn't mentioned, however later in the duel EX7-023: Hexeblaumon has the same amount of digivolution sources as ST18-12: Zephagamon which started by digivolving from ST18-01: Fluffymon.

Shoto draws a card, then hatches a ST18-01: Fluffymon during the Breeding Phase. Pteromon plays a copy of ST18-04: Pteromon to Shoto's field, moving Shoto from 3 memory to 0. Pteromon's on play effect activates, revealing the top three cards of his deck and allowing him to add 2 cards to his hand — one with Avian or Bird and one with LIBERATOR. He uses the effect to add ST18-10: GrandGalemon (Bird) and ST18-15: Anemoi Embrace (LIBERATOR) to his hand.[1] Shoto digivolves Fluffymon into ST18-05: Muchomon for 0 cost, the digivolution draw giving him ST18-08: Galemon. He digivolves Pteromon to the Galemon he just drew for 2 cost, and, rather than see his turn end, Galemon's Vortex ability activates — allowing it to attack an opponent's Digimon at the end of his turn — as well attack the same turn it was played. Galemon attacks the suspended EX7-020: Paledramon, destroying it due to Galemon having 8000DP to Paledramon's 5000.

  • Galemon usually has 6000DP, however ST18-04's inherited effect increased it by 2000. This has no effect on the battle, since Galemon would've destroyed it anyway. Neither the comic not the Battle Coverage page mention the fact Galemon was 2000DP stronger.

Frozen Knight draws a card, then opts to leave Bulucomon in the Breeding Area. It attacks Shoto's security with SnowAgumon, with this revealing another copy of Muchomon. SnowAgumon survives the battle due to Muchomon having 1000DP compared to its own 2000DP. Frozen Knight digivolves Bulucomon into another copy of Paledramon for 2 memory, taking it to 0[1], then digivolves that into EX7-021: CrysPaledramon for 3 memory — ending its turn.

On his turn, after drawing, Shoto moves his Muchomon from the Breeding Area to the Battle Area[1] — then digivolves Galemon into ST18-10: GrandGalemon for 3 cost — putting him on 0 memory. Due to Pteromon and Galemon's inherited effects, GrandGalemon's DP increases from 7000 to 11000. GrandGalemon's on digivolving effect then activates.

  • The English version of Battle Coverage 1 VS. Ice Knight claims that Shoto uses this effect to suspend Muchomon. If this is what happened, as he suspended one of his own Digimon, he is allowed to play a Bird or Avian Digimon with less than 3000DP from his hand for free. He would use this effect to play a second copy of Muchomon from his hand and as Muchomon was suspended, its effect would activate and increase GrandGalemon's DP from 11000 to 14000DP due to it being a Bird and/or Vortex Warriors. The Japanese version states that he uses the on digivolving effect to target the already suspended SnowAgumon. It later says Shoto has two Digimon in his battle area, which would be Galemon and Muchomon. This would mean Shoto did *not* target SnowAgumon and *did* target Muchomon to then play a new Muchomon (as he would only have one Digimon on the field instead of two).

Shoto has GrandGalemon attack Frozen Knight's security with it revealing a copy of Paledramon who only has 5000DP. As such, GrandGalemon survives the battle.[1]

The English version claims that Shoto digivolves his new Muchomon into another copy of Galemon for 2 cost, whilst the Japanese version states he digivolves the only Muchomon it says he has. Regardless, this puts Frozen Knight onto 2 memory — however Shoto's turn doesn't end Galemon uses its Vortex effect to attack. Galemon attacks the suspended SnowAgumon — destroying it. Galemon then uses Muchomon's inherited effect piercing effect to check one of Frozen Knight's security cards. This leaves Frozen Knight with only 1 security.[1]

On Frozen Knight's turn, it moves CrysPaledramon from the Breeding Area to the Battle Area then uses it to attack the suspended GrandGalemon. CrysPaledramon uses the inherited effects of Paledramon and Bulucomon, stripping GrandGalemon of both of its digivolution sources — leaving it with none. It then uses its Ice Clad ability to have the battle compare digivolution sources instead of DP. As CrysPaldramon has two, and GrandGalemon has none, it destroys GrandGalemon. It then pays 4 memory to digivolve CrysPaledramon into EX7-023: Hexeblaumon, putting Shoto onto two memory. After digivolving, Hexeblaumon's on digivolving effect activates to trash up to four of Shoto's Digimon's digivolution sources and then send a Tamer to the bottom of his deck. This causes Galemon to lose its Muchomon digivolution source. Shoto doesn't have a Tamer card on the field, so the second part of its effect doesn't apply.

  • Neither the comic nor the battle coverage page mention Hexeblaumon's on digivolving stripping Galemon's digivolution source — however it is a mandatory effect and as such had to have happened. Galemon having 0 digivolution sources is mentioned multiple times during the rest of the duel, meaning this effect was used.

On his next turn, Shoto hatches a Fluffymon[1] then digivolves it to Pteromon for free. He then digivolves that to Galemon for 2 cost, putting him at 0 memory. The duel continues in Out of Control (Part 2).

Other notes[]

Continuity errors

Animation errors

  • When EX7-016: Bulucomon is moved from Frozen Knight's security to its Breeding Area, Bulucomon is incorrectly shown as being summoned from EX7-021: CrysPaledramon.
  • There are multiple instances in the English version in which Japanese cards are shown instead of their English counterparts.

Synopsis[]

The duel between Frozen Knight and Shoto Kazama from Out of Control (Part 1) continues.

Seeming like he was unable to win, Shoto is about to give up — but Pteromon convinces him not to. He is then able to win the duel thanks to ST18-15: Anemoi Embrace. This is the first time he has ever won a duel, and as Shoto celebrates, his ST18-12: Zephagamon turns grey.

Shoto has just digivolved ST18-04: Pteromon in the Breeding Area to ST18-08: Galemon for 2 cost, putting him at 0 memory. He digivolves the Breeding Area Galemon to ST18-10: GrandGalemon for 3 cost, bringing his turn to an end.

Frozen Knight has Hexeblaumon attack. Its attack is able to remove three security because it has the Security Attack +1 effect via itself and a second Security Attack +1 via the rest of EX7-021: CrysPaledramon's inherited effect (an Ice-Snow type gains Security Attack +1 and Piercing if the enemy has a Digimon with 0 digivolution sources) The three cards it checks are two ST18-07: Kokatorimon[1], and ST18-14: Shoto Kazama. ST18-14 uses its security effect and puts itself into Shoto's Battle Area. Frozen Knight digivolves EX7-002: Hiyarimon[1] to EX7-017: SnowAgumon then plays the Option Card EX7-067: Summon Frost for 5 cost, putting Shoto at 2. This allows it to trash 2 digivolution sources from each of Shoto's Battle Area Digimon, though there are no targets as Shoto's Digimon have none. Due to the effect failing to trash any sources, Frozen Knight is allowed to play a lv4 or lower Ice-Snow Digimon for free — which it uses to play EX7-019: Sorcermon. The last part of the effect makes it so digivolution sourceless Digimon can't attack during Shoto's next turn. Sorcermon uses its on play effect to unsuspend Hexeblaumon as Shoto has Digimon with no digivolution sources on his field.[1]

  • As the English battle condition page claims that Shoto did a combo ending with a second Muchomon, Hexeblaumon will have to have attacked and destroyed it as it isn't on Shoto's field during his next turn. The Japanese version doesn't claim this happened, though if it hadn't happened it means Frozen Knight attacked Shoto directly when it could've destroyed his Galemon and used piercing to do the three security checks. EX7-016: Bulucomon and EX7-020: Paledramon's inherited effects would attempt to strip digivolution sources from Shoto's Battle Area Digimon but nothing would happen as they have 0 sources.

At the start of Shoto's turn, his Tamer card increases his memory from 2 to 3.[1] He draws ST18-12: Zephagamon during his draw phase, then moves GrandGalemon from the Breeding Area to the Battle Area during the Breeding Phase.[1] During the Unsuspend phase, his Galemon unsuspends — though can't attack due to having no digivolution sources (via Summon Frost's effect). In his Main Phase, he digivolves GrandGalemon into the Zephagamon for 3 cost, putting him at 0 memory. Zephagamon's on digivolving effect forces Shoto to suspend one Digimon on the field, though he is unable to suspend any of the Digimon on his field due to Hexeblaumon's effect as they have the same amount of digivolution sources (Zephagamon) or less digivolution sources (Galemon) than Hexeblaumon. He uses the effect to suspend Hexeblaumon, then uses the second part of the effect to unsuspend it.[1] As a Digimon has just unsuspended, Zephagamon's DP increases by 3000 to 18000 (Pteromon and Galemon inherited effects had already increased it 2000DP each, from 11000 to 15000). This also makes Zephagamon immune to the effects of Frozen Knight's Digimon, allowing it to attack (as Hexeblaumon's effect disallowed it to suspend, meaning it was unable to attack). He has Zephagamon attack Frozen Knight directly, and uses ST18-01: Fluffymon's inherited when attacking effect to suspend Sorcermon so it can't block his attack.[1] Zephagamon's attack reveals another copy of Hexeblaumon — though its 11000DP is too low and Zephagamon wins the battle. Shoto activates ST18-15: Anemoi Embrace for 5 cost, putting Frozen Knight at 5 memory, using it to suspend Hexeblaumon. He then uses its third effect to unsuspend Zephagamon (he in unable to use its second effect, as he didn't suspend one of his own Digimon) and uses Zephagamon's Vortex effect to attack the suspended Hexeblaumon. Shoto uses the Tamer effect of ST18-14 to suspend itself and change his attack to target Frozen Knight instead and as Frozen Knight has no security shields left, Shoto wins.

Other notes[]

Continuity errors

  • Bandai's official write up of the duel ([2]) states that EX7-023: Hexeblaumon attacked security and fought a ST18-05: Muchomon and ST18-07: Kokatorimon, however the order of the cards given in his security is wrong. The Muchomon was fought earlier in the duel by EX7-017: SnowAgumon and as such Hexeblaumon defeated two copies of Kokatorimon.
