Synopsis[]

As Shoto Kazama continues his quest playing, he talks to Kokatorimon about how it's weird it is that there's no NPC's around. Whilst still mid conversation, Shoto is surprised when Unchained comes up to them. He becomes even more surprised when Unchained says they had been looking for him. As Unchained introduces themself, Shoto asks why such a high ranking special consultant was looking for him then brings up the fact that other players shouldn't be allowed to come into his quest area. Unchained explains that they and Cool Boy had used their managerial authority to invade the area, as they needed to find Shoto — with Cool Boy's involvement shocking Shoto. Unchained then begins to explain what was currently happening in LACUNA.

Having just defeated BlackImperialdramon in a duel, Arisa Kinosaki thinks on how she had nearly lost. Done with the duel, she thinks about how Zenith had protected Owen Dreadnought, but finds it strange that Zenith seemed to have been duelling "soft". She quickly spins out of that train of thought when she realizes she had no idea where Violet "Vi" Inboots was then notices there aren't any other Imperialdramon around. She wonders if that meant the debug team's battle was over, and runs towards the City — though quickly comes across Violet in the middle of a duel. Arisa asks how it was going, with Violet proudly declaring she had already defeated four of them — informing a shocked Arisa that she probably was winning so easily as she herself actually owned a BlackImperialdramon deck and so found their plays predictable. She tells Arisa about the current state of the duel, then continues the duel.

As Violet continues to duel, other debug team members successfully defeat BlackImperialdramon as well.

Violet "Vi" Inboots vs. BlackImperialdramon[]

Note: This section includes coverage of actions that were omitted in the comic but explained in its Battle Coverage article. This writeup uses ref notes to indicate these instances. In addition, standard actions such as drawing a card at start of turn or after digivolving are generally omitted for clarity.

The start of the duel is skipped. Violet "Vi" Inboots has two security shields left, whilst the BlackImperialdramon still has all five. Violet has a BT20-063: Ghostmon in her Breeding Area and BT18-093: Violet Inboots and BT20-088: Violet Inboots Tamer cards on her field whilst the BlackImperialdramon has a EX3-073: Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and BT20-092: Battle NPC Tamer on its side on the field. At some point during the duel, BlackImperialdramon had used its Tamer effect to put a BT20-065: Wormmon under it as a digivolution source. The BlackImperialdramon has just finished its turn — its last move putting Violet onto six memory.

Violet moves Ghostmon from the Breeding Area to the Battle Area, then uses her BT20-088 Tamer's effect to gain 1 memory — putting her at seven — as her opponent has a Digimon on its field. She does multiple digivolutions; digivolving Ghostmon into BT20-067: Soulmon, Soulmon into BT20-072: Phantomon, and then Phantomon into BT20-079: Necromon — this costing her a total of nine memory, putting the BlackImperialdramon onto two.

  • Soulmon's When Digivolving effect gives one Digimon on Violet's field the Retaliation effect until the end of the opponent's turn, meaning if it's deleted by a Digimon in battle — the Digimon that killed it dies as well.

Violet uses Necromon's When Digivolving effect to delete the Digimon on the BlackImperialdramon's field with the lowest level. Since it only had one Digimon on its field, it is destroyed. As BlackImperialdramon Fighter Mode was destroyed, it uses its On Deletion effect to play Wormmon and EX3-004: Veemon from the Trash for free.

  • Violet didn't use Necromon's other optional When Digivolving effect, which would have allowed her to play a level 5 or lower Ghost Digimon from her trash for free.

At the end of her turn, she uses Necromon's Execute effect — allowing it to attack, at the cost of deleting itself once the battle ends. Necromon attacks, and as it has the Security+1 effect, it is allowed to destroy two security shields — surviving against Wormmon and Shadramon. As the battle is over, Necromon deletes itself.

This activates a series of On Deletion effects; Ghostmon's inherited gives her 1 memory, Soulmon's allows Violet to Trash one card in her hand to delete a level 4 or lower Digimon on her opponent's field (she chooses Veemon), Necromon's lets her play a level 5 or lower Ghost Digimon from her trash for free (she uses it to play the Phantomon that was part of the stack), Phantomon's does the same but for level 4 or lower (she plays the Soulmon), and BT20-006: DemiMeramon allows her to take a Ghost type Digimon card from the trash and put it into her hand (she returns Necromon). She uses Soulmon's On Play effect to give Phantomon the Retaliation effect, then uses the effect of her Tamer to suspend it — allowing her to digivolve a Digimon on her field into a Ghost Type Digimon in her hand for two less memory as a Digimon on her field had just been deleted. She uses this effect to digivolve Phantomon into Necromon for a cost of 2, putting the BlackImperialdramon at 3. She activates Necromon's When Digivolving effect to delete Wormmon.

At the start of the BlackImperialdramon's turn, the Battle NPC's Tamer effect gives it 1 memory as it has less than 3. It then uses the rest of its effect; as it doesn't have a Digimon, it can delete the Tamer card to play the Digimon in its digivolution sources for free. It plays the Wormmon that was under it, then digivolves it to P-110: Shadramon for a lowered cost of 2 since it's digivolving from Wormmon. Shadramon's When Digivolving lets it play a suspended Wormmon or Veemon from its hand for free, which it uses to play a Veemon. It digivolves the Veemon to EX3-008: Flamedramon for 2 cost, putting Violet at 1, then uses its When Digivolving effect to DNA Digivolve two Digimon on its field into a compatible Digimon in its hand — with Shadramon and Flamedramon becoming BT16-077: Dinobeemon. It uses Dinobeemon's When Digivolving effect to play a level 5 or lower Free Attribute Digimon from its trash for free, and uses it to play EX3-010: Paildramon. The second part of its effect gives it Rush, allowing it to attack the turn it was played, with it surviving the battle against BT20-067: Soulmon.[1] Sam then chooses to end his turn, despite the fact he could've DNA Digivolved his two Digimon together and attacked again.[1]

Both of Violet's Tamer effects activate, BT20-088 setting her memory to 3 as it was less than that (she had one) and BT18-093 giving her 1 memory as her opponent had at least one Digimon on her field (her now at 4).

Synopsis[]

Violet "Vi" Inboots continues her duel with the BlackImperialdramon. Whilst in the middle of one of her turns, Sam the Clown and the Wormmon possessing it manifest from the floor. It says "see you later" over and over, with Violet figuring it was possessed by said Wormmon and so she had to set it free. She continues to duel, and just as it seemed like she was going to win Wormmon interrupts Violet, and as she looks on confused — Sam holds up two cards, EX3-063: Imperialdramon Dragon Mode and EX3-073: Imperialdramon Fighter Mode which proceed to transform into BT20-076: Imperialdramon Dragon Mode ACE and BT20-020: Imperialdramon Fighter Mode. It uses these new cards to turn the duel around and wins. Shoto Kazama, tailed by Pteromon, uses his Unique Emblem to break into the duel field and activates debugging mode — forcing Sam to duel him. Violet complains at Shoto for being late, with Shoto saying he'll be sure to make it up to her.

Gameplay notes[]

Violet "Vi" Inboots vs. BlackImperialdramon/Sam the Clown[]

Note: This section includes coverage of actions that were omitted in the comic but explained in its Battle Coverage article. This writeup uses ref notes to indicate these instances. In addition, standard actions such as drawing a card at start of turn or after digivolving are generally omitted for clarity.

Violet has BT20-079: Necromon attack BlackImperialdramon directly, and as it has the Security+1 effect it is allowed to destroy two security shields. It survives the first against EX3-004: Veemon[1], whilst the second check is the Option Card ST6-15: Death Claw which uses its security effect to destroy a level 4 or lower Digimon — taking out out Violet's BT20-067: Soulmon. At this point, Sam the Clown and Wormmon manifest from the ground — either indicating it had been in charge of the duel the whole time, or had just taken over. Violet pays 8 memory, putting Sam at 4, to play the Option Card BT20-098: Apparition Legion. By returning any amount of Digimon with a combined level of 9 or less from Sam's trash to the bottom of his deck, she can play Ghost type Digimon of the same level from her Trash for free. Any Digimon played gain Rush (can attack instantly) and Blocker (can block attacks) until the end Sam's next turn. She returns the lv3 EX3-055: Wormmon and lv6 EX3-073: Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and plays the lv3 BT20-062: Candlemon and lv6 Necromon. Necromon's On Play effect allows it to delete the Digimon on Sam's field with the lowest level, though as it has two lv5 Digimon (BT16-077: Dinobeemon and EX3-010: Paildramon) she is instead allowed to chose which to delete — and proceeds to delete the Paildramon. She uses the second On Play effect of Necromon, allowing her to play a lv5 or lower Ghost type Digimon from her trash — which she uses to play BT20-072: Phantomon. As her turn has just come to an end, Necromon uses its Execute effect to attack — though once the attack is over, it has to delete itself. Execute also allows it to attack suspended Digimon, and as such it attacks Sam's Dinobeemon. Wormmon interrupts Violet, and as she looks on confused — Sam holds up two cards, EX3-063: Imperialdramon Dragon Mode and EX3-073: Imperialdramon Fighter Mode which proceed to transform into BT20-076: Imperialdramon Dragon Mode ACE and BT20-020: Imperialdramon Fighter Mode. As Violet has just attacked, Sam uses the Counter Blast DNA Digivolve effect of the BlackImperialdramon Dragon Mode in his hand to combine the Dinobeemon on the field with a Paildramon in its hand — the two of them becoming said Digimon.

  • The battle write up states that Sam DNA digivolved with the Paildramon that was on the field (before it was deleted), however the Dragon Mode card specifically DNAs from a card on the field and a card in the hand. It further states that Necromon's deletion of Paildramon failed, as it was no longer on the field to delete.[1]

Its When Digivolving effect activates, allowing it to delete a Digimon with 11000DP or less — which it uses to destroy Candlemon. As it had been formed via DNA Digivolution, its effect allows it to digivolve to a Digimon with Imperialdramon Fighter Mode in its name in either its hand or trash for free — to which it digivolves to the newly transformed Fighter Mode card his hand. At the same time, Violet activates the effect of BT20-088: Violet Inboots, allowing her to digivolve a Digimon on her field into a Ghost type Digimon for two less cost as a Ghost Type Digimon (Candlemon) had been destroyed. She pays only 1 memory, putting Sam at 5, and digivolves Phantomon into BT20-078: Reapermon. BlackImperialdramon Fighter Mode uses its when digivolving effect, which bars Violet from playing Digimon or Tamers via effect until the end of her turn and, as it has a Imperialdramon Dragon Mode under it as a digivolution source, it trashes Violet's last security card — BT20-073: MetalPhantomon.[1] This activates another of its effects, as one of Violet's shields was trashed, it is allowed to delete a Digimon on Violet's field with the same or lower DP than it. It uses this effect to destroy Reapermon. Violet attempts to use Phantomon's inherited On Deletion effect to play a lv4 or lower Ghost Digimon, though isn't allowed to since she is barred from playing Digimon via effect. With all effects over, Necromon tries to continue its attack but is unable to do so as its original target (Dinobeemon) is no longer on the field and DNA Digivolved Digimon count as a new Digimon. Despite being unable to actually attack anything, it still counted as having attacked and as such, its Execute ability activates, forcing it to delete itself. Violet tries to use its On Delete effect to play a lv5 or lower Ghost Digimon, but is once again barred from doing so.

Sam has BlackImperialdramon Fighter Mode attack Violet directly, and as she has no security shields left — she loses. Shoto Kazama, tailed by Pteromon, suddenly uses his Unique Emblem to break into the duel field and activates debugging mode, which forces Sam to duel him.
