"Image: An official image of the Digimon. The most preferable images for species articles are the Bandai control art, and then Toei character art images."
it says "preferable" I guess. I just took it as 100% "should be bandai over toei".
and you know its really weird ruin mode has no actual art or anything (why isnt he in the drb, bandai? its not like its a digimon you cant use since hes in the ds and mobile games), and the recoloured model feels like that's not what the design is even supposed to be but oh well.
Understandable though do note that the line you quote says control artwork, not model renders.
Generally speaking, we only use renders in situations like Ruin Mode where there is no official artwork to use as the Toei image we have is most likely cropped from a screenshot hence it's poor quality.
MadLeomon however doesn't have this issue, with either the base form or its fusions.
Either way it's a liscenced game, just from Bandai Korea. (Like how all star rumble and fusion fighters was Bandai USA.) Also Habu said before the media vision team are responsible for the current set of 3d models (tho Bandai own the rights to them which is why they've been reused in other games). Not sure how that would work with Ruin mode but I guess technically the links staff recoloured the media vision model of Burst mode.
It'll be the same situation here, models made by game king or whoever but owned by Bandai Korea. (Will also be why they got to reuse the soul chaser sprites after they took over since Bandai Korea would own those)
so basically media vision make 249 models for cyber sleuth, which are owned by bandai even tho technically they didnt make them. bandai themselves then reuse them themselves due to owning them in next order and the mobile games. that then leads to bandai shanghai using them in encounters. presumelable the masters masters could be reused if bandai really wanted to... there's just no reason to do so since the cyber sleuth ones are better.
and with soul chaser, nemtaru make the sprites and then a few years later move games take over. movegames then reused the nemtaru sprites, as bandai own them, even tho they didnt make those either.
I had always assumed that being the standard barring unusual cases like Ruin Mode's Toei image being a shitty crop or when we have official Bandai art from other official sources such as the official Twitter or the art books before said Digimon is added to the Reference Book.
Fair point, we don't know the when the idea of a serpentine tail made out of energy projecting from the physical stump of the tail originally came from so it could have come from HiMachinedramon or even predated both Xros Wars and Tri altogether with these being just the first known examples of it in actual media.
Given that Machinedramon has a full tail in World which came before Adventure, I want to assume the latter theory.
Generally, it's reserved for forms treated as modes but not currently recognized as their own species such as MagnaAngemon's Battle and Priest Modes, Justimon's arm modes before they were made into their own subspecies or Shoutmon's king form from Hunters before that became a species.
in terms of "species" name for the justimons, I'm not sure if we'd use the "dub" names, it seems more like they were for the attack names, or the arms themselves rather than the "species", but I suppose the arms are the only thing different.
still, this is how it's written in hackers memory:
"By replacing the three plugs in its right shoulder which are located in the extend transmitter on its back, it can switch between a powerful Big Wave Arm, a electric Thunder Arm, and a cutting Cyclonic Arm" (using new dub arm names lol)
so yeah, it may be better to use the Japanese names for the justimon forms, with the dub names as the attack names? only time it seems to have been dubbed with the name as a species, is as "Justimon: Blitz Arm" in Digimon World Next Order. (which actually gives us the third Justimon name, actually).
I'm feeling like only Justimon (Blitz Arm) just have most of the info, rather than having three pages with duplicate info. have the other arms ever actually appeared in anything other than digimon heroes?
