Mamoru Hosoda (細田 守 Hosoda Mamoru?) is a Japanese director.
One of his films, Summer Wars, shares many plot and design similarities with Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!, while another of them, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, is referenced in the title of the third arc of Digimon Fusion, "The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time". The evolution sequence of Omnimon in Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna where WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon evolved into Omnimon when being surrounded by images of whales, could also be a homage to either or both Whamon or works by Mamoru Hosoda; Hosoda decided the concept of Omnimon, and GeGeGe no Kitarō: Dai-Kaijū and Coo From a Distant Sea are some of his earliest movie careers, and he has been using "whales" as key characters or images in all of his movies since The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
