King Drasil is the mysterious host computer who rules over all of the "Digital World" on one Server of the Network.[1] Its primary form is that of the Server Tree, an enormous, sacred tree. Bagramon replaced its lost eyes and right half of its body, taken from it by God, with wood cut from the sacred tree.[2] It has created an avatar in the form of King Drasil_7D6, whose body has many unidentified details,[1] and Shakamon is rumored to be the being closest to King Drasil in the Digital World.[3] It gathered the Royal Knights in order to manage the world, and it seems that its will will eventually lead the Royal Knights to cross Servers to the Digital World: Iliad Server and meet the Olympos XII face-to-face.[4]

Design[]

King Drasil's design, showcased in Digital Monster X-Evolution, is a pristine crystalline sphere on a similarly-formed plinth.

The Server Tree's design is derived from the mythological Yggdrasill, an immeasurably large tree which supported the various worlds in Norse mythology. Although it resembles a mundane tree, the ivy growing over it are optical cables, its wooden trunk is inlaid with circuitry, and it contains chambers for the Royal Knights to gather. Several of King Drasil's crystals act as its security system, and possess the ability to fire beams of energy or absorb and reflect attacks.

Norn's design is derived from the mythological Norns, with her bound outfit being based on Gothic Lolita fashion, while her freed outfit is based on Magical girl fashion with details drawn from King Drasil_7D6's design. King Drasil's human form in Digimon Story: Time Stranger also resembles Norn.

Etymologies[]

Yggdrasill (イグドラシル)

Name used in Japanese and some American English[5] media. Base name officially romanized in the Digimon Reference Book. Some media spell it as "Yggdrasil".[6]

Norn Mikihara (美樹原 ノルン)

Alias used while in the Real World in Digimon Next.

  • Norns. Beings from Norse mythology who are bound to Yggdrasill.
  • Ja: Mikihara (美樹原?). Japanese surname that means "beautiful tree field". Likely a reference to the mythological Yggdrasill tree.
King Drasil

Name used in American English media.

Its alias as the "WIZ 9000 Computer" and its "9000" type are derived from WiZ Co., Ltd., who developed the Tamagotchi and Digimon Virtual Pet with Bandai. The Server Tree's name is derived from its status as the Digital World's Server.

King Drasil was created by Homeostasis Digimon Story: Time Stranger and is the Host Computer of the main Digital World.

In order to halt the Eater incursion in the Digital World, King Drasil sends Crusadermon and Leopardmon to destroy the human world via the Parade Lost plan, which opens a rift between the human and Digital Worlds. Conversly, Alphamon is sent to the Real World by King Drasil to act as a counter to Crusadermon and Leopardmon.

By the time Aiba, Arata Sanada, Yuuko Kamishiro and Nokia Shiramine arrive in the Digital World alongside Alphamon and Omnimon, the Mother Eater has eroded through to King Drasil's core and overridden most of King Drasil's functionality, causing the King Drasil_7D6 units to identify even the Royal Knights as intruders. Upon the Mother Eater's destruction and the reset of both the Digital and human worlds, King Drasil is restored.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger[]

As Akemi Suedou had reset the timeline, King Drasil had technically never been corrupted by the Eaters.

In the new timeline, the Titans causing havoc in Digital World: Iliad causes Homeros to fall into a deep sleep. As she is unable to wake up, King Drasil and Kunlun decide to temporarily work together to protect Iliad in her place. They hang out in the VIP room of the In-Between Theater with the duo remaining by Homeros' side to protect her — with King Drasil using an avatar similar to Norn Mikihara. They send their minions to Illiad to fight and hopefully the Titans so that Homeros can wake up. King Drasil sends the Royal Knights, but they all slack off — causing King Drasil to send Yuki to remind them of their duty. After Yuki finds them all, they remember they were supposed to be defeating the Titans and go to Central Tower to prepare for the battle against Chronomon. King Drasil also gives Yuki the power to time travel as a reward for saving all the Olympos XII.

When Yuki and the Olympos XII fight Chronomon, they struggle due to Chronomon's barrier. When all hope seems lost, King Drasil sends the Royal Knights to attack Chronomon. The combined power of their thirteen attacks breaks the barrier — which evens the playing field. Rather than have them stay around, King Drasil has the Knights leave the battlefield.
