Gankoomon is a member of the Royal Knights, whilst Hinukamuy is its companion.

They both became close friends with Hajime Kawashima, who travelled with them and their friends in the Digital World doing studies on if humans could move to the Digital World and if they could co-exist with Digimon. Digimon Knuckles EP1 They also came up with a plan to send the weakest Digimon to the Human World to help them survive, and that the stronger Digimon would help raise them in the much safer World. Digimon Knuckles EP2

During his time in the Digital World, Gankoomon sometimes sparred with members of the Deva. He also trained Hackmon, with Gankoomon being a very strict and harsh teacher. Digimon Knuckles EP2

As Hajime was too busy with his work in the Digital World, he sends the duo to the human world to look after his son, Haruka Kawashima, in his place. Digimon Knuckles EP1

Gankoomon and Hinukamuy manage to travel to the human world, though find themselves in the sky when they do. They fall from the sky and land on the ground right in front of Haruka and a Mojyamon. The Mojyamon had asked Haruka for food, which had scared Haruka with him asking for help. Mojyamon simply changes focus and asks Gankoomon for food, with Gankoomon laughing and asking if it really thinks a Champion can defeat a Mega. Mojyamon attacks Gankoomon, with Gankoomon slapping it in the face in the middle of its attack. This snaps Mojyamon out of its apparent trance, and seeing a member of the Royal Knights in front of it — it runs away begging for its life. Gankoomon tells Haruka not to run away as well, as his father had sent it to find Haruka and that it was now going to protect him in his father's place. Haruka lies and says he isn't who it is looking for, and though Gankoomon believes it at first it realizes he's lying due to how similar he looks to Hajime. Haruka threatens to call the police, though when Gankoomon mentions recognizing the watch on his wrist Haruka asks if it actually knows his dad. It re-affirms that it does, then asks Haruka if he can get it some food.

He takes them home and gives them some food, and figures that since Gankoomon knows his Dad's name and saved him from Mojyamon it must be telling the truth. He still didn't trust it though, since it was such a suspicious scenario. Gankoomon tells him to stop being so uptight since they're gonna be living together from now on, though Haruka tells it that he can't just let a stranger stay the night. Gankoomon ignores this and instead asks Haruka what he knows about his father's work.

Haruka asks if Gankoomon is one of his dad's co-workers to which he says he isn't, but does help him with his work in the Digital World. After hearing the story, Haruka doubts he's the one Gankoomon was looking for, since his dad would never do something so crazy, with Gankoomon surprised to hear that Hajime had never told his son about his work. He tells Gankoomon that he isn't really close with his dad, then tells the Digimon duo that there's more food in the fridge and that he's going to go shopping to get some more. Gankoomon offers to go with him, though Haruka tells it to stay home.

Now alone with Hinukamuy, Gankoomon laughs at the fact they had been yelled at by a teenage human and is surprised that the human wasn't scared of a Royal Knight. He sympathises with Hajime, as getting along with your offspring is a difficult task. Rather than remain home, the duo follow Haruka with Haruka not noticing this.

Whilst out shopping, Haruka sees an AeroVeedramon show up and kidnap a child's father. The shoppers run away, as the child tells it to give his father back. After throwing a rock at the AeroVeedramon it gets mad and launches an attack at the kid. Haruka runs in the way to try and protect the kid though realizes that was a stupid thing to do as now he'll just die alongside the kid. He begs someone to help him and says that this is the time when a dad is supposed to come and protect his kid. Haruka's watch reacts and summons a Knightmon's shield, which Haruka uses to block the attack. Gankoomon and Hinukamuy join the battle, with Gankoomon praising him for surviving the attack. The duo defeat AeroVeedramon, with Gankoomon slapping it to wake it up. AeroVeedramon thanks it for stopping it, though also makes sure to say that the attacks hurt it. It tells Gankoomon it has no clue how it got here and that it feels like it was talking to someone before arriving though can't really remember. Gankoomon asks if there's a nearby forest AeroVeedramon can hide, with Haruka looking online for one it can go to. Haruka asks Gankoomon where the missing humans are and if more Digimon will show up. Gankoomon answers that it has no idea where the humans are, and that more Digimon would be likely to show up. It tells Haruka that Hajime had sent it to stop Digimon from showing up in the human world, and figures the disappearances may be related to the Digimon issues. It promises to stay and clean up any messes made by its fellow Digimon, and asks Haruka to help it by supporting it in its actions. Since it had already saved his life twice he figures he may as well agree, and accepts Gankoomon and Hinukamuy as his partners — not as a stand in dad. Haruka tries to ask about the watch, though Gankoomon instead says they can talk about that later as it wants to learn about Haruka and the Human World. Digimon Knuckles EP1

One day, Gankoomon tells Haruka that they are going on patrol. As they need to solve the recent incident, they needed to go around and talk to the various Digimon, with Haruka coming with it since Gankoomon knows nothing about the Human World and as such would be unable to notice if anything weird was going on. Gankoomon tells Haruka he can protect himself with his watch if anything goes wrong, with Haruka asking what it even was in the first place. Gankoomon tells him it was a prototype made by Hajime and the other researchers, and that it was a device that allows the user to transport matter between the Digital World and Human World — but that it also had Digimon data stored on it, allowing the usage of various Digimon's weapons/tools. Haruka asks if they could just send the Digimon back to the Digital World with the watch, though Gankoomon says they can't as the watch will break if the data sent through it was too high and as such they would only be able to do that one time. Figuring Gankoomon would stick out, Haruka has Gankoomon put on his dad's clothes so that he could try to pass as a regular human.

As they walk around the City, Gankoomon enjoys taking in the sights and enjoys the fact that Human life was so laid back since the Digital World has everyone constantly fighting for survival. It tells Haruka how it had collaborated with Hajime and the others as it figured sending the weakest Digimon to the Human Would would help them survive, and that the stronger Digimon would help raise them in the much safer World. Gankoomon gets off the train, thinking they had reached their stop — though their stop was actually the next one — and as Haruka hadn't got off the train, it leaves and separates the duo.

Some time later, having reunited, the duo go to the park and talk about Hajime. Gankoomon asks if Haruka ever did this sort of thing with him, with Haruka saying they didn't. Gankoomon asks if he hates his dad, and though Haruka says it's hard to like someone you don't know — he doesn't hate him either. As Gankoomon was in the middle of saying how deep a quote that was, the nearby kids and jungle gym disappear. A Vajramon shows up, with Gankoomon summoning Hinukamuy in response. Gankoomon yells at Haruka to run away, as Vajramon's attack creates fissures and that Haruka would die if he were to end up falling into one of them. Haruka thinks back to his nightmare though, and remembers the message from the mystery Digimon of how he needs to get stronger refuses to leave. He uses the watch to summon various things, though they all wind up being useless. As Gankoomon watches Haruka's failed attempts, it dodges an attack from Pajiramon at the last second — who had shot an arrow at it from atop a building. As Gankoomon tries to dodge the rest of its attacks, it realizes it's not mobile enough in the Human World to avoid them all and tells Hinukamuy to shield it from the arrows. Having seen Gankoomon distracted by Pajiramon, Vajiramon had launched an attack at Haruka — but Hinukamuy's intervention had allowed Gankoomon to save Haruka. Upset at the fact Hinukamuy had been hurt, and Haruka had nearly died, Gankoomon punches Vajramon so hard it gets launched far away into the sky. Seeing this, Pajiramon runs away.

Gankoomon yells at Haruka and asks why he had done what he did, with Haruka saying he had to get stronger so that his dad would accept him. Gankoomon tells Haruka that without him, he wouldn't be able to travel the Human World very well and asks if that means it's weak. Before Haruka can answer, Gankoomon tells him that just because he can't fight — it doesn't mean he is weak, and that they can get stronger together by helping each other out, as that's what partners do. Haruka apologizes for what he had done, though Gankoomon says he will have to save his self reflection for later as Vajramon had returned. As Gankoomon wonders how it can defeat Vajramon and keep Haruka safe at the same time without the help of the defeated Hinukamuy, it notices Haruka was holding Etemon's mic that he had summoned from his watch earlier. He tells him to yell really loudly into the mic, then launches attacks against Vajramon. During the fight, as it notices Vajramon was about to use its Rohda attack, Gankoomon covers its ears and tells Haruka to do as it had said. Haruka does so, with the noise being enough to distract Vajramon and prevent it from launching its attack. This gives Gankoomon the opening it needed, with it proceeding to defeat and knock out Vajramon. With Vajramon dealt with, Gankoomon brings up Pajiramon and asks Haruka to help it track it down.

The duo eventually find Pajiramon, with Gankoomon defeating it with ease. Gankoomon drags the knocked out Pajiramon back to where Vajramon was, with the duo eventually waking up and the duo realizing they had lost control of their actions at some point (and as such were now back to normal). Gankoomon tells AeroVeedramon to take them to the forest, with Vajramon saying it will get stronger so that it can fight Gankoomon again one day. Haruka mentions to Pajiramon that he had actually seen its arrows before in his dreams, with Pajiramon saying it had actually noticed it was missing a few and might've shot them whilst it was enraged...or had had them stolen, and someone else had been using them. It explains that anyone struck with its arrows have a nightmare, though further discussion has Pajiramon say it is unable to talk to those it gives nightmares to. This concerns everyone, as whoever was causing Digimon rampages and had stolen its arrows must've been really strong as they were able to manipulate two members of the Deva — who — whilst not as strong as the Royal Knights — were still some of the strongest Digimon in the Digital World.

After returning home, Haruka asks Gankoomon if he would be able to defeat such a strong mysterious Digimon — to which Gankoomon says it is confident it could. Haruka then tells Gankoomon about its nightmare, and how he had seen Pajiramon's arrows inside it. In addition, there was a voice telling him that he was too weak, and that the voice didn't belong to Pajiramon. Gankoomon complains that he had waited until now to tell him, since he had told him to tell him about anything weird that had happened — with Haruka saying he didn't think it had actually mattered since it was just a dream. Gankoomon tells Haruka just how much his dad talked about him, and that the watch is filled with data that it and his dad had collected for Haruka during their travels. He says that Hajime wouldn't have left because he thought his son was weak and that he probably just wanted to show he cared with actions rather than words. Haruka doubts this though, saying that his dad was nothing like Gankoomon. Whether he believes Gankoomon's words or not, he says he hopes he can talk to his dad about everything he was hiding at some point so he can scald him for everything he has done. He then says he wishes his dad was like Gankoomon instead of how he actually was.

Later that night, Gankoomon thinks back to Haruka's words about wanting to get stronger — which causes it to think about Hackmon. It then realizes it has no room to talk, as it had treated Hackmon the same exact way that Hajime had been treating Haruka. Digimon Knuckles EP2
