This article details the relationships between Zoe Orimoto and her fellow DigiDestined of Digimon Frontier.
Relationships[]
Takuya Kanbara[]
Zoe at first struggles to look up to Takuya as a leader, but eventually comes to accept him and trusts his opinion on almost every count. At the beginning of the series, Zoe often teased Takuya about having a crush on her because of how mature he would try to act in front of her. While he denied it, it can be said he was lying because of how overly defensive he acted towards such statements. Later in the series she starts to show genuine concern for his well-being, and offers him a date if he can defeat Cherubimon. During his battle with Cherubimon, Takuya has a dream that he defeated Cherubimon and is now on a date with Zoe sleeping on her lap, indicating he likely has feelings for her. While at Ophanimon's Castle, Zoe appears to be about to confess something to Takuya while they are alone (possibly her feelings for him) after he indirectly confesses he has feelings for her (by saying he likes her but then covering it up while blushing when she questions it, saying he meant just as a friend), but finds him asleep and changes her mind.
Since Frontier couples have never been officially confirmed, nothing keeps you from thinking someday they could end up together. In the very first drama, “Things I want to tell you”, she tells he is a brother to her and loves his flaming personality.
In “A Train of Hope” drama, where they are both 18, it’s revealed Zoe teaches him italian to help him with his future football career and Zoe plans to cheer him up in Italy with the whole group, during his very first match.
Koji Minamoto[]
There were some small instances indicating Zoe and Koji may have feelings for each other. At the beginning when Koji was on his own, Zoe tried approaching him in Breezy Village asking him to hang out with her and J.P., but he coldly rejected her, and Zoe questioned "why she tried to like a guy like him." Zoe later hugged Koji when she was scared in the Continent of Darkness, and Koji embarrassingly blushed. Later, Zoe calls Koji "the best" when he loans her his jacket to keep herself warm when going down the raft towards the Autumn Leaf Fair, which makes J.P. jealous and causes Koji to blush again. But after Koichi appears, Koji starts to spend his character development with him, so most of the possible relationship between the two faded away, although it is still obvious that the two care about one another, especially after Koichi's death.
J.P. Shibayama[]
In the very first drama, “Things I want to tell you”, Zoe tells J.P she didn’t like him at first: he sounded spoiled, like a brat, and he seemed a person without tact and decency to her. She couldn’t like him. However, at some point she started understanding he’s actually a kid who might seem to say whatever he’s got in his mind whereas he keeps his feelings bottled up inside him.
Actually, even if she treated him coldly at the beginning, they manage to become good friends and fighting partners. J.P managed to get respect from her in the Odd One out episode and got her trust for defeating Grumblemon to give Zoe’s spirit back to her.
She’s always been quite aware he’s had a crush on her, a crush he has probably got because he felt like she was as lonely as him from the first time she met her ( according to some japanese profiles). Some times Zoe pushes him back, other times innocently appreciates his kindness, even in official artworks like one in which he gives her a flower and she is enthusiastic about it.
Since Frontier couples have never been officially confirmed, nothing keeps you from thinking someday they could end up together like J.P has always wished.
In the very first drama that has already been mentioned, Zoe tells him she wants to hang out as friends, without special feelings attached, but she never explicitly rejects him.
In “A Train of Hope”, an audio drama from the special 2019 Blu-Ray, Zoe and J.P have got a section dedicated to a conversation between them. J.P is still over heels for her and it’s shown they are even closer in their relationship, knowing each other well, feeling more comfortable around each other. He wants to get even closer to Zoe by taking on opera singing and learning italian but he has become more awkward and struggles to talk from his heart. Zoe tells him, “ If you have something to say, then say it and clearly”, indicating their relationship can’t probably step to a romantic level due to his hesitation.
It doesn’t help in the 2022 drama Zoe is revealed to be “dense at love”, not understanding the proposal from a kid who gave her a waistband as a graduation present.
Ever since they met Zoe has showed concern for Tommy in trouble.
Kouichi Kimura[]
When the two first meet, Zoe is awkward around him but encourages Koji to talk to him. Then after he defeats the projection of Cherubimon, she says that she can't let him fight him alone by using the excuse "I can't let you boys have all the fun, now can I?" After they defeat Cherubimon the first time, she begins what most shippers call either 'Zoichi' or 'Kouizumi' by winking at him and encouraging him to open up.
