Digimon is a fanon live-action film idea created by CAJH. It is the first installment of the fanfictional film series idea and the Eight Crests Arc. The story of the film is inspired by several elements from 1999 Adventure and 2020 Adventure: continuities as well as few recurring elements from Digimon mythologies.

The initial story idea of Digimon was released to the Digimon Wiki on March 2021. But was later removed to be reworked for a better one, with the latest version released on May 2022. The ”Digimon 2021 Fan Fiction Film Series Story Idea Group” is also actively recruiting other people to suggest their own ideas or story changes for a potential full script.

But a black lightning sends them into the Digital World through separates portals (Note: the visuals of the scene where they go through the Network into the Digital World is inspired by the first part of 1999 Digimon Adventure opening sequence).
  • The major plot points of the Second Act:
    • Taichi and Agumon wake up alone, noticing how their Digivices have a function that allows them to communicate with each other. While trying to find the other, they confront one of the Kuwagamon, and Agumon learns to evolve into its Champion form: Greymon. Taichi’s Digivice suddenly reacts and extinguishes a Black Spark inside Kuwagamon, stopping its violent behavior. But Greymon is not powerful enough to keep its form so it degenerates back into Agumon after the battle.
    • Matt and Gabumon are the first ones Taichi and Agumon manage to reunite with. They have disagreements with how to find the others and defeat the Black Sparks and the brainwashed Digimon. But Taichi comes to understand Matt, when the latter opens up to them about Tyler and his parents’ divorce.
    • They get attacked by a brainwashed Seadramon who almost kills Matt. Gabumon puts itself on Seadramon’s way to protect Matt, making a loner Matt see Gabumon as his first real friend for a long time. Gabumon evolves into Garurumon and purifies Seadramon.
    • In the real world, Tyler and Hikari meet each other and become acquinted.
    • Connor ends up in a place that contains knowledge about the File Island. After from Taichi and Matt about the Kuwagamon and Seadramon, he realizes that the Black Sparks do not only take the form of the Kuramon but can also infect other Digimon. He copies the untranslated information to take with him in order to find a solution to the Kuramon Outbreak and a way get back to the real world.
    • The children hear about Source Code City, capital of the File Island, and decide to travel there. A humorous scene is seen where Vegiemon is told that the children have only American Dollars, and no Japanese Yen to pay (Note: inspired by scene from Digitamamon’s restaurant in 1999 Digimon Adventure). The children also meet Leomon, a resistance fighter who has been searching for a way to cure the Infection. He also tells the children that they are meant to be Chosen Children, humans from another world capable of making the other Digimon evolve. But another Digimon named Ogremon searches worthy opponents to defeat and wants to defeat Leomon, despising the latter’s heroic attitude.
    • Source Code City ends up attacked by Meramon and Drimogemon who are both Infected. They are defeated when Piyomon and Tentomon learn to evolve into Birdramon and Kabuterimon. After that, the Kuramon and the Tsumemon, with some of them evolving into Keramon, invade the city. The Keramon are capable of speaking and are more powerful than regular Rookie Level Digimon. The Chosen Children are forced to escape the city, while the Keramon and a mysterious voice offer Ogremon a way to become stronger than Leomon.
  • The major plot points of the Third Act:
    • The Chosen Children and Leomon arrive at the Holy Ruins where the content of the emails Connor receives are becoming less corrupted as the emails are coming from the Ruins themselves.
    • The Digivices release Huckmon who has been turned to stone. Huckmon reveals himself as the messenger of Kernel, the living core of the Digital World. He reveals that the Black Sparks and the Kuramon are a tool used for corruption and stealing data from the Network, used by the Dark Digimon who waged three wars in the ancient Digital World.
    • When the possibility of a fourth war became more likely, Huckmon was tasked to create Digivices to wield the power of the Crests, embodiment of benevolent personality traits. He was also tasked to send them with the Digi-Eggs to the Network, so the Partner Digimon could call the Chosen Children to the Network and the Digital World. Botamon, Punimon, Nyokimon, Bubbmon, Yuramon and Pichimon appear in a flashback scene. The seventh one is a special kind of Digi-Egg, so it was hidden far deeper in the Network.
    • A giant pillar of energy rises from the Infinity Mountain, located in the centre of the File Island. It opens a large distortions with an army of Kuramon, Tsumemon and Keramon coming through it, fusing with the leader of the Keramon who evolves into a giant Chrysalimon. The Infected Digimon around the File island, including the other Infected Kuwagamon, Yukidarumon, Airdramon, Monochromon, Tyrannomon and Ogremon, start walking towards the mountain. (Note: the visuals of the scene where the giant Chrysalimon appears at the top of the Infinity Mountain is inspired by the the giant Devimon in ”The Legend of the DigiDestined” (the 13th episode of 1999 Digimon Adventure)).
    • Taichi and Matt decide to go to the top of the Mountain while others are forced to remain behind to fight the Infected Digimon. Greymon and Garurumon are able to destroy some of the Kuramon, Tsumemon, and Keramon, but Chrysalimon is too powerful and it starts extending its tentacles to the Network to eat and corrupt even more data, making the New York City Subway lose control and risking several subway trains colliding into each other, including ones where Hikari and her mother are. Tyler is drawn into the Network by a mysterious yellow light.
    • During the final battle, Mimi learns to make Palmon evolve into Togemon and Joe learns to make Gomamon evolve into Ikkakumon. Leomon faces Ogremon again, but the Infected Ogremon is more powerful and almost kills Leomon before being stooped by Sonya, Connor, Mimi and Joe.
    • The other Chosen Children arrive to the top of the Infinity Mountain to help Taichi, Matt, Greymon and Garurumon fight Chrysalimon, but are followed by the surviving Kuramon, Tsumemon, and Keramon who help Chrysalimon overpower Birdramon, Kabuterimon, Togemon and Ikkakumon. Connor sees fromhis laptop that a seventh human child has ended upinto the Network. Matt recognizes him as Tyler, going with Taichi, Greymon and Garurumon try to reach Tyler and the Holy Digi-Egg, but Chrysalimon’s tentacles manage to reach them and over power them too.
    • After sturggling against Chrysalimon ’s tentacles himself for a while, Tyler manages to find the Holy Digi-Egg and touch it. Then, both the Digivices and the Digi-Egg send a powerful wave of light that eliminates all of the Kuramon, Tsumemon, and Keramon, but only weakens Chrysalimon. The wave also powers up DigiGates, with Connor figuring out a way to manipulate them to bring the trains to the Network and then into different rails in the real world, with Hikari seeing a glimpse of Taichi and the others. The trains stop when Greymon, Garurumon, Birdramon, Kabuterimon, Togemon and Ikkakumon succeed at destroying the weakened Chrysalimon.
    • The Holy Digi-Egg then hatches into Poyomon and a Digivice appears in Tyler’s hand. But Poyomon is soon caught by a dark cloud. The power of the Digivices opens a DigiGate that sends Poyomon into an unknown safe location. The cloud transforms into a shadowy manifestation of Devimon who had encouraged Ogremon to join forces with the Kuramon. Leomon and Ogremon both recognize Devimon as the Dark Digimon who controls the Cloud Continent. While the Chosen Children assume that Devimon was behind the Kuramon Outbreak, Devimon assures them that he will bring forth a new threat in the future and might even face the Chosen Children personally one day. After that, his manifestation disappears. Leomon and Huckmon ask Ogremon to help them and the Chosen Children, but Ogremon refuses and runs away.
    • The Chosen Children return to the real world, and resolve to return one day, so they can explore the Cloud Continent, find Poyomon, and defeat Devimon. After the summer vacation ends, they finally return to the Digital World through their Digivices and the DigiGate software in Connor’s tablet, but their arrival is monitored by Devimon whose body is now fully shown.
  • The mid-credit scene:
    • Poyomon is seeing playing with a couple of Botamon, Punimon, Nyokimon and Yuramon, before suddenly evolving into Tokomon.

Development

While discussing with CLTwins15 about potential story ideas that were left out of Cinematic Sagas and the Digiversum, CAJH made a decision to make a third film series idea. He also planned that this time the story would start with main characters being 11 years old, two years younger than the main characters of the Cinematic Sagas or Digiversum. And no government organizations or private companies are involved. CAJH also hoped that he could have multiple people join his ”Digimon 2021 Fan Fiction Film Series Story Idea Group” to help develop this fan fiction. The project, however, proceeded without CLTwins15 due to creative differences about one character from CLTwins15's own fan fictions.

The previous film series ideas had also started before real-life anime film Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna as well as the Digimon Adventure:, reboot of the Adventure continuity, premiered. And CAJH wished to adapt some of the new villains to these new stories. Although CAJH liked the stories he wrote, he came to consider that Cinematic Sagas was too dependent of adapting existing stories and that the idea of the Digiversum as a shared universe didn't sound like something a real filmmaker would be very likely to do. And he also admired the idea of Adventure: making the threats of the Digital World affect the real world through technological problems rather than disrupting the interdimensional balance.

CAJH was also interested of the approach used by Harry Potter films and Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man films of having each sequel take one school year later than its predecessor.

Trivia

  • Just like Cinematic Sagas film idea Digimon: First Adventure, Devimon appears the first villain faced by the Chosen Children. But in this continuity, Devimon starts as a background villain, with much more important role being planned for the sequel.
  • Unlike Digimon: First Adventure and first Digimon main film of the Digiversum, the main characters do not gain any human allies from technology companies or government agencies right in the beginning.
  • The initial plan was to have the characters start their journey same age as their anime counterparts, but the difference between educational systems of the United States and Japan and their role in character descriptions forced CAJH to change his plans.

Sequels

Digimon: Light and Dark

The second installment, a sequel titled Digimon: Light and Dark, focuses on the Chosen Children actively fighting against Devimon and searching for Tyler’s lost Partner Digimon who is a Holy Digimon.

Digimon: Worlds Collide

The third installment, a threequel titled Digimon: Worlds Collide, focuses on facing a greater villain behind the previous challenges of the Chosen Children and finding the eighth Chosen Child and the second Holy Digimon.
