Digimon: Light and Dark is a fanon live-action film idea created by CAJH. It is the sequel to Digimon and the second installment of the fanfictional film series idea. The story of the film is inspired by several elements from 1999 Adventure and 2020 Adventure: continuities as well as few recurring elements from Digimon mythologies. The story of the film starts one year after the events of Digimon.

The initial story idea of Digimon: Light and Dark was released to the Digimon Wiki on March 2021. But was later removed to be reworked for a better one, with the lastest version released on January 2022. The ”Digimon 2021 Fan Fiction Film Series Story Idea Group” is also actively recruiting other people to suggest their own ideas or story changes for a potential full script.

Plot

  • The major plot points of the First Act:
    • The Chosen Ones have been searching for both Tokomon and Devimon’s castle. They are also joined by Tyler Whitaker whose partner Tokomon is, but over-protected by his older brother Matthew ”Matt” Jephson. Hikari Yagami is also aware of the Digimon but has promised not to come to the Digital World with them or tell anyone.
    • New serious disturbances appear in the Network, but no Kuramon appears anywhere this time. Instead, all the new disturbances in the East Coast of the United States are caused by the Infected Digimon sent to the Network to cause severe traffic disturbances and blackouts. The digital screens also show up a countdown of 72 hours (three full days).
    • Therefore Huckmon advises the Chosen Ones explore their Crests (Courage, Friendship, Love, Knowledge, Sincerity, and Reliability) further to reach the Perfect Level, in order to defeat an enemy more powerful than Chrysalimon. Pressured by the fact that the Chosen Ones are in a hurry, Taichi tries to forcefully find a way to tap into the power of his own Crest and make Agumon super evolve.
    • Sonya feels she will be unable to use the Crest of Love because of her problems with her mother. Connor secretly feels unable to use the Crest of Knowledge because of his problems with his parents, who are hiding the fact that Connor was adopted.
    • Tokomon is revealed to live in the Village of Beginnings, well hidden in the File Island. It is the only place not in Devimon’s control. Its caretaker Elecmon is overprotective of Baby and Toddler Level Digimon and distrustful of the Chosen Ones. Tokomon, however, refuses to obey Elecmon and evolves to Patamon. Patamon even fights Elecmon and wins.
    • When Devidramon attacks the Village of Beginnings, Taichi attempts to recklessly put his own life in danger, hoping to make Greymon super evolve, but the Crest of Courage is corrupted and Greymon dark super evolves to SkullGreymon, whom Devimon lures into the Cloud Continent to cause rampage.
    • SkullGreymon causes destructions and wounds several individuals, causing Mimi to become so distraught that she fears making same mistake as Taichi did or hurting innocent Digimon. She leaves the group with Joe, who does not want to leave her alone.
    • Taichi’s actions and Tyler’s distaste for Matt’s overprotectiveness cause Matt to lash out towards Taichi and leave the group as well, but separate ways from Mimi and Joe.
  • The major plot points of the Second Act:
    • Taichi starts to become uncertain of himself and decides not to make any decisions unless he would understand Matt would want. He even sees nightmares.
    • Meanwhile, Matt is also starting to become uncertain of himself. He was mostly focused only protecting Tyler and trying not to show how much his parents’ divorce really did affect him during last years. He starts seeing nightmares too.
    • Mimi and Joe find Ogremon who had been challenging several Digimon to become stronger until being severely wounded by an attack of Devimon’s minions. Joe was normally very nervous about doing medical things, but this time he did manage to tend Ogremon’s wounds.
    • One day, Taichi decides to bravely face SkullGreymon alone, this time endangering himself to talk to his Partner Digimon and save him, rather than force him evolve. SkullGreymon keeps attacking, but Taichi keeps talking and showing even stronger resolution to rather lay down his life than see his Partner Digimon suffer from dark evolution. And finally, Agumon comes out of SkullGreymon.
    • SkullGreymon has become its own entity, but Taichi refuses to run away from it, purifying the Crest of Courage, and making Agumon evolve into Greymon again and then super evolve to MetalGreymon. SkullGreymon is defeated and MetalGreymon reabsords its data.
    • MetalPhantomon tries to kidnap Tyler and Patamon, and wounds Piyomon. Matt, who was convinced by Gabumon to return to help others, arrives and realizes how he is still important to Tyler, even though his brother would one day grow up. He also realizes that the other Chosen Ones really do see him as their friend, making the Crest of Friendship activate. Garurumon super evolves to WereGarurumon who destroys MetalPhantomon.
    • Patamon can sense Devimon and guides the Chosen Ones one of the places visited earlier, Miasma Lake, where Devimon’s castle is submerged.
    • Mimi and Joe and meet with Leomon who also convinces the wounded Orgemon to give up their fight until Devimon is destroyed, then they together travel to the Miasma Lake to meet other Chosen Ones.
  • The major plot points of the Third Act:
    • The Chosen Ones reach the Miasma Lake, and the castle rises to the surface, and connects to the Network with a black energy pillar. They split into groups that try to fight against the Infected Digimon and the Dark Digimon in the Network, with Devimon himself faces with MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon.
    • Leomon is wounded by MetalTyrannomon and MegaSeadramon, and Ogremon, unwilling to let someone else finish Leomon, sacrifices himself to protect Leomon.
    • Connor realizes that the Chosen Ones appreciate his knowledge and curiosity and how he should be honest with his adoptive parents, activating the Crest of Knowledge, making Kabuterimon super evolve to AtlasKabuterimon and defeating Okuwamon.
    • After fully understanding how much her being worried about Piyomon resembles that of her mother being worried about her, Sonya activates the Crest of Love, making Birdramon super evolve to Garudamon and defeating Mammothmon.
    • Mimi realizes that she cannot avoid fighting forever and admits wanting help others to prevent them from being hurt, activating the Crest of Sincerity, making Togemon super evolve to Lillymon and defeating MetalTyrannomon.
    • Joe realizes he is there when others truly need him despite not being a leader, activating the Crest of Reliabilty, making Ikkakumon super evolve to Zudomon and defeating MegaSeadramon.
    • Every electronical device in New York shuts down, but a holographic phenomenon showing the final minutes of the countdown appears in both the real world and the Digital World. Devimon absorbs the data of his castle, as well as the data of Mammothmon, Okuwamon, MetalTyrannomon and MegaSeadramon to super evolve into NeoDevimon, taking full control of the blackouts and infections. He also launches a missile from a U.S. base in Pacific Ocean towards New York as part of his plan to ensure that the Chosen Ones will never be able to restore New York if the city is destroyed.
    • MetalGreymon, WereGarurumon, Garudamon, AtlasKabuterimon, Lillymon and Zudomon are easily overpowered by NeoDevimon. Patamon tries to fight by himself but is almost killed before Tyler finally manages to make him evolve to Angemon.
    • The other Partner Digimon send their own powers to Angemon, degenerating back to their Toddler Level forms in the process. Angemon uses Heaven’s Knuckle, but his body turns to data that flows with the attack towards NeoDevimon. Nothing happens at first, making the Chosen Ones think Angemon failed and was destroyed. But Angemon rematerializes as Tokomon inside NeoDevimon’s body, which starts to glow.
    • Out of desire to save humanity, he uses Holy Power to restore electricity, blow up the missile, stop the countdown and create a force field to prevent an electromagnetic pulse from permanently damaging any electronical devices. Tokomon escapes from inside.
    • NeoDevimon loses his powers but survives by degenerating into Tsukaimon. Tsukaimon laughs how there is another enemy at the Server Continent who cannot be defeated by only seven Chosen Ones. He then escapes into a distortion-like gate.
    • Leomon promises to take Ogremon’s Digi-Egg to Elecmon and Huckmon assures the Chosen Ones that the Partner Digimon will slowly but certainly regain their powers, and informs that not only must Tyler awaken the powers of the Crest of Hope, but they must also find the eighth Chosen One.
  • The mid-credit scene:
    • A Dark Digimon called LadyDevimon informs her master of Devimon’s defeat. The master is confident that the Chosen Ones will not rescue the other Holy Digimon before the eighth Chosen One is found and destroyed.

Development

CAJH planned from the very beginning that Devimon would be the first recurring antagonist of the fan fiction film series. He also planned that Tyler Whitaker and Hikari Yagami and would not participate in battles during the first film, ”making them new members, in a way” in the sequel.

CAJH decided that Light and Dark would indeed take one school year later than Digimon, but also decided that it might not be the case with every upcoming installment of the series. He explained that he would not want to write the films or plan a production schedule for them in a way to ”exhaust” potential actors or actresses. Centuarmon was decided to be left out from the sequel, due to CAJH not coming up with any good storyline idea for him. Leomon, Orgemon and Huckmon still remain as supporting characters. And the Chosen Ones’ relationships to their families were opened up even more as part of the ”Crests storyline”. As for the decision to introduce the first six Perfect Level forms in the sequel, CAJH explained that he needed to ensure that every main character of the film would have a proper storyline, just like in the first film.

Trivia

  • Unlike in 2000 Adventure: continuity, this version of Soundbirdmon does not possess an ability to brainwash Digimon. That role, as well the role of Black Gears, is given to the Infection that makes its return from the first film. But only in Light and Dark, the Chosen Ones manage to find a way to purify the Digimon from Devimon's Infection without any outside help.
  • This version of Devimon has minions who are familiar serving Vamdemon in 1999 Adventure continuity or Millenniummon in 2000 Adventure: continuity.
  • SkullGreymon was initially planned not to appear, but that was changed for the benefit of the story.
  • Angemon was planned from the beginning to be the one who would ensure NeoDevimon’s defeat. But because NeoDevimon was a Perfect Level Digimon and CAJH wanted to keep using Devimon as a villain for more than just two films, Devimon’s defeat was not developed to be his end in this film.
