Changes: Evil Shows His Face

A mansion atop Infinite Mountain provides the first good night's sleep in a while for the group, but a new and powerful evil is about to present itself to them in the form of Devimon.

Synopsis

As the kids come to terms with being stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere, a brave Digimon by the name of Leomon, who is also on Infinite Mountain, is attacked by his arch-rival, Ogremon. However, the fight is soon broken up by Devimon, one of the most evil Digimon of all. He informs them of the DigiDestined's presence on the mountain, and orders them to work together to eliminate them. Whilst Ogremon's only objection is to working with Leomon, Leomon is completely against the idea, and attempts to strike Devimon, who strikes Leomon in response, taking control of him in the process.

Meanwhile, Tai is attempting to draw a map of the island, despite the comments of the other kids on his poor map making skills. At that moment, Leomon appears and, much to the surprise of the other Digimon, proceeds to destroy the group. Whilst making their escape, Tai drops his map. He goes back for it, and Agumon fires a Pepper Breath to defend him, which ends up burning the map. Soon, the way is blocked by Ogremon, and the group is left with no choice but to stand and fight. The Digimon change to their Champion forms, and manage to hold off the enemy until Devimon causes a landslide above, distracting them and giving Ogremon and Leomon the chance to retreat. Once the dust settles, the kids find their Digimon back in their Rookie forms, tired and hungry.

Whilst searching for a decent place to rest, they come across a mansion, of all things, and decide to investigate. They discover a feast laid out in the dining room, and are soon helping themselves. As the sun goes down, the kids and their Digimon have a relaxing bath before settling down in bed. Everyone quickly falls asleep, allowing Devimon and his two servants to sneak into the mansion unnoticed. However, Tai and Agumon are soon making their way to the bathroom. As they're about to head back to bed, Ogremon jumps out from hiding, and they hurry to escape, before running into Leomon. At that point, Devimon reveals himself to Tai and Agumon, and the mansion turns out to be an illusion. As the rest of the group awakens to this reality, Devimon proceeds to eliminate them, raising their beds into the air. At the same time, the island begins to be torn apart by Devimon's Black Gears. Agumon soon realises that he doesn't have the strength to fight against Leomon, having eaten no real food at all, and Tai is soon in Leomon's grip. Tai's bed then crashes nearby, and his digivice falls out, shining a bright light that frees Leomon of Devimon's control. Leomon then fires a blow at Devimon, distracting him from the other kids, who are sent flying off in all directions. But before Leomon can attack again, Ogremon appears, and so he's left with no choice but to send Tai and Agumon away, as he is once again taken over by Devimon. Now the kids are separated, and the island continues to drift further and further apart.

—Agumon accidentally burns up Tai's map.

Patamon: "He look hungry to you?"
T.K: "We're too small to eat, and I'm full of junk food!"
Gomamon: "Well, he's not against a little snack."

—Gomamon picks the wrong time to discuss Leomon's eating habits.

"We may have found other life forms! Look at the grounds, I mean, someone must've mowed the lawn."

―Izzy is still beating that dead horse.

Agumon: "This place should be on your map."
Tai: "Agumon, if you recall, you burned up my map."
Agumon: "Oh, yeah."

—Tai just won't let it go.

Mimi: "Everyone's eating, but their table manners are appalling."
T.K.: "I guess it's 'cause they like it."

—Mimi and T.K. discuss the Digimon's eating habits.

"That's it! I can't bear to look any longer! I'm gonna eat it, at least I won't die hungry! On your mark, get set...!"

―Joe just can't stand the temptation.

"Mmm...Peanut butter and pickles, this is the best pizza ever!"

―T.K. makes one of the weirdest remarks as the group feasts.

Matt: "Watch the hair, dude!"
Tai: "Is that what that is? I thought some bird made a nest on your head!"

—Matt shows concern for his hair when Tai jumps into the hot tub.

Izzy: "Warm water is perfect for removing soil and epidermis, you know, dirt and dead skin?"
Tentomon: "Whenever my skin gets dirty, I just shed it."
Izzy: "That would be difficult for me."

—Izzy and Tentomon discuss their different cleaning methods.

Patamon: "Humans can be so silly."
Tentomon: "Humans aren't the only silly ones. Where's Gabumon?"

Other notes

Animation errors

In a shot of Tai, Sora, Joe and their Digimon at the start of the episode, Biyomon's neck is colored blue instead of pink.
When Leomon's sword falls to the ground, Ogremon has red bands on both of his legs.
In a close-up shot of Ogremon using his Pummel Whack attack, his upper jaw is gray instead of green for a brief moment.
When Tai is drawing the map, the black band on his left arm is missing.
In a shot of Tai, Matt, Sora and Izzy after Leomon's words, Sora's belt is the same color as her pants and Izzy has a white spots in the pupils of his eyes (this happens again in the next shot).
When Ogremon uses his Bone Cudgel attack, he has red bands in both of his legs.
When Leomon uses his Beast Sword attack, his entire mouth is colored red for a brief moment.
In shots of the group about to be attacked by Ogremon and Leomon, Izzy's Digivice is miscolored and the brown bands on Mimi's gloves are the same color as her gloves.
Just before Agumon, Gabumon and Palmon digivolve, Ogremon has black bands in both of his legs.
As Leomon lands after being hit by Greymon, part of his tail disappears for a brief moment.
From after the Digimon digivolve to when he is hit by Ikkakumon's Harpoon Torpedo attack, the red and black bands on Ogremon's legs are the wrong way around.
In a shot of the six Digimon at the Champion level, the brown area around Ikkakumom's eyes seems to be missing and his paw is colored white instead of brown.
When Tai cheers Greymon, the black band on his left arm is missing.
When the Digimon turn to see the rock-slide, Togemon's hair is colored green instead of yellow.
When Sora, Joe and their Digimon look down the cliff, Sora's belt is the same color as her pants.
In a moving shot of Tai, Matt, Mimi and their Digimon, Gabumon's toenails are colored violet instead of white.
As the group walk away, Gabumon's tail is the same color as his fur coat.
When Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy and Joe run towards the mansion, the lower tip of Sora's hat is the same color as the rest of it.
In a shot of Tai, Matt, Sora and Izzy at the entrance of the mansion, the yellow stripes on Tai's shirt are missing.
When Mimi and T.K. are looking at the angel painting, T.K.'s sleeves are the same color as his torso.
When Gabumon smells a feast, Sora's shoes are completely gray, Gabumon's toenails are violet instead of white and Palmon's fingers are completely purple.
In a shot of Gabumon next to the bathroom, his right thumb is the same color as his fur coat.
When Ogremon is hiding in the bathroom, for a brief moment, one of his tusk-like appendages turns green.
After Ogremon breaks out of the cubicle, the rings on his right ear are missing.
When Devimon appears in front of Tai, the marking on his forehead, his eyes, his upper lip, the lower part of the symbol on his chest, his right middle finger and the straps on his lower right leg are the same color as his body, and his right knee is colored gray.
When the group are shown on their floating beds, the scleras of Sora and T.K.'s eyes are missing, and when T.K. and Patamon are shown in the same shot again, the lower part of T.K.'s body is missing.
In a shot of Leomon holding Tai up against the wall, Tai's shoes are missing.
In a shot of Izzy and Tentomon on the bed, the lower sides of Tentomon's head are colored green instead of red.
When Ogremon attacks Leomon, his loincloth is the same color as his horns.
After Leomon blocks Ogremon's attack, Ogremon has red bands in both of his legs.
When Ogremon jumps up behind Leomon, he has red bands in both of his legs.

Dubbing changes

Whenever Leomon gets brainwashed by Devimon in the original episode, a lion roar is heard.
Devimon doesn't talk about the secret of teamwork in the original episode. He just realizes that the group is strong despite looking tired.
In the bath scene, the following shots were removed from the English dub:
- A shot where Tai jumps in the water.
- A shot where Matt and Tai try to get Joe into the bath naked.
- A shot after Gomamon is thrown out of the girls' bath, where he and lands on Joe's head and Joe is lying on the floor naked.
When Ogremon is hiding in the bathroom, he covers his mouth. In the English dub, this is to stop himself laughing at Tai and Agumon, who haven't noticed him. Though in the original episode, this is because Agumon lets off a horrible smell whilst on the toilet. Ogremon then comes out of hiding because of the stench.
The actual moment showing Leomon pinning Tai up against the wall is cut out of the English dub.
In the original, Agumon went with Tai to the bathroom because he actually had to go, but in the English dub, he says he only went because he wanted to protect Tai from any potential danger (though he didn't want to say why he was in the stall). Additionally, in the original version, he says having eaten so much would have made it easier for him to poop while farting sound effects were heard. In the dub, this is changed to him talking about how Ogremon might still be out there, and the farting sound effects were removed.

Digimon references

Patamon pointedly observes a painting of an angel in the mansion, foreshadowing the appearance of Angemon, Patamon's Champion form.
The eight beds in the bedroom could be foreshadowing the appearance of the eighth DigiDestined.

Miscellaneous trivia

Devimon announces the episode title in the Japanese episode.
The term DigiDestined, or Chosen Children in the original, is used for the first time, by Devimon.
The DigiDestined's underclothes are colored similarly to their regular clothes.
One of the few times Tentomon opens his mouth in this series occurs while the group is eating.
