DA02 ep42 recap

Episode recap for Digimon World Tour, Pt. 3.

Synopsis[]

In Acapulco, Mexico, Stingmon is seen destroying a Control Spire. Ken and Matt then receive word that there are Digimon in the ancient Mayan Temple in Palenque.

The temple is surrounded by guards. Ken and Matt hide behind some bushes. Ken tells Matt that the Mexican DigiDestined can't help out because it's so late in the evening. Ken and Matt try to ask a guard to let them enter the ruins, but the guard refuses. They head back to the bushes and meet up with Jose (Gennai's Mexican counterpart). Jose distracts the guards by demonstrating mock Kung-Fu and signals Ken and Matt to go inside the Mayan Temple.

Inside the Temple, Matt, and Ken meet Rosa and her partner Digimon, Gotsumon. Rosa tells them that she snuck out of her house in order to help them. Rosa develops a crush on Ken and asks Ken in Spanish if he has a girlfriend. Wormmon sees Rosa as competition for Ken's attention and sparks up a rivalry between them. Rosa calls Wormmon a worm in Spanish. Matt asks Ken about what Rosa said. When Ken tells them that she called Wormmon fish bait which he mistranslated as it should have been worm, Matt asks Ken not to tell Wormmon that.

As Gotsumon apologizes to Wormmon for Rosa's behavior, Jose then appears and leads them to the two wild Digimon; Minotarumon and Dokugumon. Ken tells Matt that the Mayan Temple is a historical landmark and must not be destroyed or damaged. Matt provokes the two Digimon into chasing so that he could lead them out of the temple. Ken, Rosa, and Jose follow after them. Rosa falls down and Ken carries her on his back. Wormmon, wanting Ken's attention, pretends to fall and jumps forward to Ken, telling him to carry him. However, it is Gotsumon who he actually jumps to. Both Digimon sweatdrop as a result.

With the wild Digimon outside the temple, Matt, Ken and Rosa have their respective partners digivolve into WereGarurumon, Stingmon and Monochromon. They easily take out the Digimon and return them to the Digital World.

Rosa falls asleep on Ken's back. She mutters while she sleeps about Wormmon. Since Rosa muttered what she said in Spanish, Wormmon sadly thinks that Rosa continues to insult even in her sleep. However, Ken tells Wormmon that the girl said he was amazing and acknowledges that she likes Wormmon. This makes Wormmon feel much better.

Ken and Matt return Rosa back to the door of her house, where her worried parents find her and are relieved to have her back, as her father was just about to call the Federales to look for her.

Meanwhile, in Moscow, Russia, the Russian DigiDestined (Anna, Sonya, and Yuri) with their partner Digimon (Unimon, Snimon and Kuwagamon) introduce themselves to Sora and Yolei. Yolei hugs each of them. However, they soon discover a communication problem between them since Sora and Yolei can't speak Russian while Anna, Sonya, and Yuri can't speak Japanese. Sora only knows three Russian words (piroshki, borscht, and caviar) and Yolei establishes those three words into battle commands. Piroshki would mean to go left, Borscht to go right, while Caviar would signal "attack".

With the five of them all having partner Digimon that can fly, they battle the Flymon flying around Moscow. After defeating the Flymon and sending them back to the Digital World, Anna and Sonya offer Sora and Yolei to eat piroshki and borscht. However, Ilya (Gennai's Russian counterpart) immediately sends them to Siberia to help the Siberian DigiDestined fight off a group of Mammothmon.

They struggle against the freezing weather and the Mammothmon, but fortunately, Imperialdramon Dragon Mode arrives and helps them. They send the Mammothmon back to the Digital World. Ilya bids them goodbye, runs off to the distance, and returns to the Digital World. Sora and Yolei are hungry and are eager to eat piroshki and borscht. However, Davis and Ken tell them that they have to return to Japan immediately and that they can eat piroshki and borscht back in Japan. This brings Sora, Yolei and their partners to comical tears.

The Russian Army tries to gather data on the Digimon. When a commanding officer asks one of his subordinates if there is any progress, the subordinate tells him that all the data on the Digimon are gone. It turns out Ilya hacked into their computers and deleted all their data to maintain balance between Earth and the Digital World.

As Imperialdramon Dragon Mode flies back to Japan with the Japanese DigiDestined, the International DigiDestined are shown celebrating Christmas. Mimi and her family share a big cake. The Poi Brothers are dreaming of Kari. Rosa is sleeping on her bed and dreaming of Ken and Stingmon. Her parents watch over her from the door of her bedroom. Gotsumon sleeps on the other side of Rosa's bed with a part of her blanket covering the top of his head, preventing her parents from seeing him. The Russian DigiDestined are eating piroshki and borscht. Derek and Crabmon are eating pizza, pilaf, and curry with seafood toppings. Catherine and Floramon are celebrating Christmas with T.K.'s grandfather, Michel.

Meanwhile, in Japan, a sad-looking Hiroshi is standing alone in an overpass. He is picked up by a black van, driven by Arukenimon and Mummymon.

Ken: "Not at all. She just said, 'Stingmon, you're the greatest'."

—Wormmon finally earns Rosa's respect.

Other notes[]

Continuity errors

  • In the English dub, Ilya, Gennai's Russian counterpart, says 'DigiPort open' when sending the Mammothmon back, despite the fact that only DigiDestined with D-3s can open a DigiPort.
  • Matt and Ken are shown travelling from Acapulco to Palenque within the span of less than a night, despite the fact that it's a distance of over 500 miles.

Animation errors

  • When Gotsumon apologizes to Wormmon for Rosa's behaviour, the inside of his mouth is transparent.
  • When Aquilamon and Garudamon arrive in Moscow, a yellow section of Garudamon's talons are colored orange (this shot does not feature in the English dub).
  • In a side-shot of Yolei, Sora, their Digimon and the Russian DigiDestined, the ring on Biyomon's left leg is missing.
  • When the group start flying, the orange sections on Garudamon's fingers are missing.
  • When the group dodges the Flymon's attacks the first time, the stings are colored black instead of red.
  • When the group dodges the Flymon's attacks a second time, the red cloth on Garudamon's left arm is missing, the stripe on one of her fingers is colored yellow instead of orange, the stripes on her left hand are missing, and part of Kuwagamon's legs are cut off.
  • When Ilya appears, the laptop Yuri is holding is completely purple.
  • When the group reunites with Yolei and Sora, the side of Armadillomon's head is colored yellow instead of gold, the upper tip of his left ear is colored pink, the white section of the armor on his right hind leg is the same color as his armor, Gabumon's horn is the same color as Matt's coat and the lower pink section of the symbol on his stomach is colored yellow.
  • When Ken says they must go back to Japan, Gabumon's toenails are colored violet instead of white.

Dubbing changes

  • In the Japanese version, the guard, Rosa and her parents only speak Spanish.
  • The guard originally threatened to shoot Ken and Matt with his gun if they didn't leave. This moment was cut from the English dub.
  • In the Japanese version, Rosa's name was Chichos.
  • In the Japanese version, Wormmon asks Jose to translate Rosa's questions. These questions are "Do you have a girlfriend", "What type of girls do you like" and "What do you think about me".
  • In the Japanese version, Wormmon asks Ken how to say "goodbye" in Spanish, while in the English dub, he asks him how to say "thank you".
  • In the Japanese version, Sonya's name was Laura.
  • In the Japanese version, after the Russian Army's data on Digimon was deleted by Ilya, he simply closes his laptop. In the English version, Ilya quickly says "and to all a good night".
  • A whole clip showing Aquilamon and Garudamon destroying a control spire is removed from the English dub (as a result, appearances of Aquilamon and Garudamon are delayed).
  • When the DigiDestined around the world are shown celebrating Christmas, Tenshi no Inori is played in the Japanese version. This is replaced by Jingle Bells in the English dub.
  • The sound for Yolei's stomach is a lion in the English dub.

Real-world references

  • More real-world locations are seen in this episode:
    • Ken and Matt destroy a control spire in Acapulco, Mexico, and later fly to the ancient Maya site Palenque.
    • Yolei and Sora fight the Flymon in Moscow, Russia. In the English dub, they later travel to Siberia (in the original, no location is specified).
  • In the Japanese version, when Yolei, Sora and the Russian DigiDestined are flying, Yolei says "Go! Go! DigiRangers!". Earlier on, she also says "Digimon Sentai", both of which are clear references to the Japanese TV series Super Sentai, which Power Rangers is directly based on.

Miscellaneous trivia

  • Ken, Matt, Yolei and Sora announce the episode title in the Japanese episode.
  • Gotsumon is the only Digimon since the first series to have a proper digivolution sequence other than the twelve main Digimon.
  • In the Japanese version, when Gotsumon digivolves, he says "Gotsumon digi-evolution", instead of "Gotsumon evolve", likely as a nod to the English dub's terminology.
  • This is the only episode that seems to indicate difficulty in communication between the Japanese DigiDestined and those of other countries:
    • Matt, Gabumon and Wormmon could not speak Spanish and thus could not understand Rosa (in the original version), though Ken was able to translate.
    • Yolei and Sora could not speak Russian at all, greatly impairing communication between the Japanese and Russian DigiDestined.
  • This episode marks the final appearance of Control Spire, as they're all now eradicated from both the Digital World and the Real World.
