Izzy and Tentomon find themselves back in the canyon they had once passed through earlier in the Digital World. There, they meet Nanomon, a Digimon who loves knowledge. Nanomon challenges Izzy to a match in a dungeon full of riddles.
Summary[]
As Izzy and Tentomon return to the area where they had fought Okuwamon previously, they are soon joined by Tai and Agumon, before being confronted by Nanomon, who they don't know has been stalking Izzy while under the influence of the Soundbirdmon. Nanomon challenges Izzy to see who is the master of knowledge, and has captured Whamon to force Izzy into facing a GranKuwagamon if he passes Nanomon's challenges and reaches Whamon before it becomes GranKuwagamon's meal. Izzy has only 30 minutes to pass the test before Nanomon declares victory.
However, when Izzy makes a wrong turn while solving the first hint, Tai is captured, and Nanomon warns that every time Izzy makes a mistake, one of his friends will be captured and prepared to be turned into a Nanomon themselves unless he better translates the hints he's given and finds the hidden messages to them. Izzy cracks the second hint without making an error, but has lost half the time limit now. With the third and final hint, he tries to crack it with brute force due to running out of time, but again makes an error, and Agumon is captured next, before Nanomon sends some Virus Grenades after Izzy to finish him off, but Tentomon rescues him, and after a pep talk from Tentomon, Izzy challenges Nanomon to give him one more chance to solve the riddles, and Nanomon accepts. Despite some hesitation, and being warned of only 5 minutes left to finish the challenge, Izzy goes for it, and Tentomon digivolves to Kabuterimon to allow them to reach Whamon in time, only to then be confronted by GranKuwagamon. Despite his best efforts, MegaKabuterimon is no match for GranKuwagamon, until Izzy's epiphany allows the Crest of Knowledge to truly awaken and digivolve MegaKabuterimon into his Mega form of HerculesKabuterimon. At that point, Izzy and HerculesKabuterimon turn the tables on Nanomon, making him believe they are attacking Whamon, forcing him to reveal himself as he flees out Whamon's blowhole, at which point, as Nanomon begins to suffer an overload at having been outsmarted, GranKuwagamon grabs him and attempts to retreat, but HerculesKabuterimon catches up to them and hits them with his Giga Blaster, before catching Nanomon and convincing him that using knowledge to hurt your friends is wrong while also stating he won the challenge, causing Nanomon to then pass out as he returns to normal, while Tai spots the Soundbirdmon as they retreat following his and Agumon's release.
When Nanomon comes to later after being returned to normal from the Soundbirdmon corrupting him, he's ecstatic to meet Izzy, having no memory of his actions while corrupted, mentioning that Garbagemon is a research partner of his, and wondering why he is in unfamiliar territory. Also, Izzy gets confirmation that he has solved the mystery behind the Crest of Knowledge, but there's still the concern about the Soundbirdmon.
