When Satoru Sakamoto was young, he was invited to participate in the D-ZERO experiment. Because of this, Satoru succeeded in befriending his partner Digimon, Agumon, and they became each other's partner, growing up and facing the unknown "adventure" together. Agumon plays football with his partner, and Satoru uses this method to cultivate a tacit understanding with Digimon.[1]
Satoru and Agumon often sneaked into the DTF headquarters to play. One time they came across the captain who had just submitted an application for the special operations team, and they were subdued by the captain due to misunderstanding. After the misunderstanding was resolved, they decided to help each other. The captain helped Satoru improve his strength and achieving his goal of becoming a champion of the digital competition. In exchange, Satoru joined the team and became the first team member.[1]
Agumon and Satoru fight alongside the Protagonist when they meet Wu Hai and Lopmon, as well as Youko Aragaki and Lunamon, with the Protagonist and Satoru winning each time.

Greymon[]
Greymon is Agumon's Champion form.
When Lucemon is attacked by a Devimon, Agumon digivolves to Greymon to help protect Lucemon alongside Lekismon and BaoHuckmon.
MetalGreymon[]
MetalGreymon is Agumon's Ultimate form.
After Lilithmon captures Cho Hakkaimon, Gokuwmon, Sanzomon, and Shawjamon, Satoru, and Agumon, the Protagonist, and Hackmon, arrive to try and save them. Lianpumon turns on Lilithmon and knocks Satoru's stolen digivice out of her hand, which allows Satoru to retrieve it and digivolve Agumon multiple times, until he becomes WarGreymon.
WarGreymon[]
WarGreymon is one of Agumon's Mega forms.
After Lilithmon captures Cho Hakkaimon, Gokuwmon, Sanzomon, and Shawjamon, Satoru, and Agumon, the Protagonist, and Hackmon, arrive to try and save them. Lianpumon turns on Lilithmon and knocks Satoru's stolen digivice out of her hand, which allows Satoru to retrieve it and digivolve Agumon multiple times, until he becomes WarGreymon. WarGreymon frees the four trapped Digimon, who then proceed to DNA digivolve together to become Shakamon. Shakamon summons Xiquemon, who proceeds to digivolve back to back to become Xiangpengmon, after which it joins the battle. Hackmon warp digivolves to Jesmon and then fights alongside the others to defeat Lilithmon and her minions.
